3rd Trimester

Just about 28 weeks and baby stopped moving

Hi all. I'll be 28 wks as of this Sunday. My baby has been moving actively for weeks, and big movements, too. Monday morning this week was the last time I felt anything. After feeling no movement for 2 days, I called the OB and they had me come for an ultrasound but baby was moving and heartbeat, etc. was fine. They scheduled me for another ultrasound for this coming Tues but I still haven't felt any movement since Monday (and I've done the drink OJ/Ice water and lie down thing frequently ). Anybody experience something like this? Should I not wait till the next ultrasound on Tues and just call my doctor's office today? Thanks!!

Re: Just about 28 weeks and baby stopped moving

  • Not my personal expierence, so I'm not sure the best way to explain.

My SIL hardly felt movement her entire pregnancy, if any movement at all. It was due to the baby's positioning. Anytime she was really worried, she would go to L&D and they would always do an ultrasound to ease her mind. All was fine though.

I'm sure that can be very scary. I hope all works out for you.

  • I'm paranoid about movements.. If she's having a quiet day (And mine had a TON of them around 28 weeks too, btw. That was a quiet time for her) I panic. If she's super-active (as she is tonight) I worry about that too. Because those things are unusual.

My last appointment was at week 28 and I told my doctor about it. She said that during that period, the baby's brain is going through a growth spurt and many babies tend to sleep a lot during that time. She also said that you start counting kicks at week 28 (anything before that might not be always something you can feel or may not be regular) so you're JUST at that point where you want to start counting.

I was also surprised to notice several movements at week 28 picked up by the doppler that i didn't feel! So think of that.

But it's already been said - a quick call to your caregiver never hurts if you're really worried.

I'm also at 28 weeks and my baby has days where he is so quite it worries me but just before I can get too worried he gives me a little nudge. I think it's normal for them be a little quite around this time due to growth spurts and what not. I've been in L&D the last 2 nights for monitoring due to a short cervix and every time we're hooked up to the monitors little guy goes crazy kicking it after an entire day of doing nothing. If your ultrasound showed movement & heartbeat I'd try and relax a little bit. :)
But of course you can always give your doctor a call and see what they say.
  • Around 28 weeks is when things start getting pretty tight in there, so you wont feel as many of the "big movements" as you used to. Also, babies have off days, just like us! Some days they are busy growing and developing, and just aren't as active. I was very concerned as well around that time, so this is not meant to come off as scolding at all, but now that I'm farther along he's been very VERY active again, but still has quiet days. If ultrasound shows that baby is fine, he's probably fine. If you call your doctor they are going to tell you to do a kick count, and if he really isn't moving AT ALL you should go in to L&D, but that's only after drinking some cold water, sitting for two hours and monitoring movements very closely (aka not doing any moving around, just feeling for baby).

Now I just realized it's Tuesday so you've probably already been to your ultrasound hope everything went well!
