Morning Sickness? Is it or isn't it?

Is anyone else (assuming mostly first time moms...) not sure if they are having morning sickness or not? Starting maybe a week ago (end of week 4) I have felt pretty crappy all day. I find that eating keeps the feeling mostly at bay (which means im eating at least once every 2 hours!). However its definitely not great. I have not thrown up, gagged or even felt like i was going to. But i am having a hard time describing what im feeling. I feel like its nothing to worry about and is in the realm of what i presume is normal, but my husband is mildly concerned that its more than morning sickness. I am not feeling truly dizzy but that seems to be the best word i can describe. When i get up my head spins, but not enough to make me feel like i want to throw up. It almost boarderlines on a headache and i feel best if i just kind of hang out in bed and if it gets super bad aside from eating, just closing my eyes for a few minutes seems to do the trick enough. My one friend who has three kids said she never threw up but always felt like she basically had a hangover. However, i have only had a hangover maybe one time ever, and I can kind of maybe slightly relate this to that. All of my other symptoms seem to be on par, sore breasts, endlessly hungry/thirstly, light to medium cramps every one in a while, and extremely moody. Just curious if anyone has any insight at all, and curious what second+ time moms have to say about what morning sickness was truly like or not like.

Re: Morning Sickness? Is it or isn't it?

  • Yeah I'd call that morning sickness. From my experience it will keep getting worse until 8 weeks and then get slightly better and be done somewhere betten 12-14 weeks. As for throwing up, I didn't start throwing up until I hit the second trimester but had a low level of nausea the whole first tri. (I think because I was feeling better, I was pushing my body a little to hard). Consider yourself lucky if you never puke and keep eating every 2 hours!

  • I'm not a second time mom, but can tell you 4 weeks is not to early for MS. I have it. You seem right on track! Sore boobs, nausea, fatigue all normal.
  • That's exactly what I'm feeling right now, just like a hangover! Im a STM and didn't really feel like this the first time, just felt sick if I didn't eat soon enough. Physical activity makes it worse, which makes teaching dance super fun for me. I kind of feel like Im just waiting for the real morning sickness to hit? Either way, feels normal to me :)
  • You just described me. I have been thinking all morning OMG this is the worst hangover of my life. Everytime I stand up I get lightheaded (not super unusual for me since I have low blood pressure) and I've had that kind of racing heart, sweaty, feel like puking thing going on. This is nothing like the plain nausea I had with my first.

  • Okay this is insanely reassuring that everyone seems to be on the same page. I honestly didn't think anything of it, until my husband was concerned. But my instinct was telling me it was normal. I'm 5.5 weeks so it would be great if this only gets 2-3 weeks worse, since i was kind of thinking it was going to be constantly getting worse til 12/14 weeks! But that's awesome to hear that it (should, hopefully.) taper back down.

Today the hunger has been insane. Its 10 am and ive already eaten 3 things an am starving...
  • I'm 6 weeks tomorrow, sounds like we're on the same page. And I ate breakfast twice this morning :) I tried to satisfy myself with fruit but it wasn't happening!
  • What you just described is EXACTLY how my first pregnancy went! I'm sure you are fine :D

  • I felt very hungover yesterday. Not fair without the wine haha.
It definitely sounds like you're experiencing all the fun pregnancy symptoms. Lay in bed for a bit before sitting up, and try keeping some saltines on your nightstand and eat a few of them before you sit up too. That really helped me last time. Luckily, I'm not quite there yet, but I know it's coming.
