Upper abdominal pain - Braxton hicks?

edited October 2015 in January 2016 Moms
Hi, I know there has been some posts about Braxton hicks but I'm not sure if this is or not. Because if it is it's nothing like my 3 other pregnancies.

Anyway on to the pain - I've been experiencing a stinging stitch type pain in my upper left tummy (above my bump) for a good few weeks now. It gets worse if I walk lots or stay active. Well today it's got really bad and I was considering going to the out of hours at the hospital for them to check me over.

Anyone else experience this pain and if so what did it turn out to be?

As I say I didn't have this with my last 3 babies.

Any advice.

  • I get really sharp pains up there too. Is it near your rib cage? It seems just my left bottom ribs are expanding or pulling or something, it's sharp and it sucks but if I sit down, lean back and massage the area for a bit it seems to help.

This just happened to me and really freaked me out. I'm currently laying on my left side and massaged the area a bit which seemed to help. Thanks for the advice pp!
  • I had what I'm pretty sure was a BH yesterday but it was low, closer to my groin. I had to stop in my tracks (I couldn't even get my legs to move) and hold the wall. I googled it, and the internet seemed to agree BH contractions are low.
  • I just talked to my OB about this at my appointment this morning. She said it's very common and due to stretching and growing to accommodate baby. I started feeling mine at 25 weeks (I'm 27 now), off and on, sometimes worse and longer than others. She said it will most likely get worse/happen more often as the weeks progress.
