"Sleep when the baby sleeps." RANT

If I hear this phrase one more time... I'm going to completely lose my cool. It's so annoying because if I could sleep every time the baby sleeps... Guess what I would. But my life didn't stop just because I had a baby...

So I guess I should also... "Pay bills when the baby pays bills... Cook when she cooks... And clean when she cleans right?"

Sorry for the rant I just needed to let it out... Maybe some of you can relate

  • No I understand. I guess I just don't like hearing "man you look tired... My best advice is sleep when the baby sleeps." I guess I'm just over hearing that. Lol

I've only been able to sleep when she sleeps one time since she's been born. So yah, not so easy.
  • I agree with all of you. She's asleep now, but now is my chance to eat, drink, pump for her.. Breathe... Etc.
  • It's so true. When I had my first that is all everyone said to me. Or offered to watch him while I napped. Idc how many hours I am awake straight I do not nap, it's impossible I have things to do.
Of course after your first kid naps are not even offered anymore

Yes. But you're better than me, I'm not so worried about cleaning or cooking as I am about eating and showering. Plus I have a 2 year old, so I kind of have to be awake for her.

    Yes this is me too
  • I get that advice and I also have a 21 month old. It's a little hard to nap when baby naps, when big brother naps at a different time. I have one awake at all times.

  • The last 2 days I managed to get both girls asleep in their own beds for the same naptime. No way could I join them though :( my MIL left 2 weeks ago and DH has been working non stop plus studying for an exam. Showering, cooking and eating cookies are higher priority than sleep! I've started cleaning with both kids because they cooperate better than if I'm sitting down (I wear the baby and let the toddler help).

  • I only sleep when baby is asleep at night. I maybe took one nap during the day the first week I was home, but when he sleeps during the day I need to get stuff done!
  • So hubby was all worried I wasn't sleeping n one day I texted him, "Jameson FINALLY fell asleep!" at 10 am. He responds, "So why aren't you sleeping, too?" (Meaning well, I really think!) and I kinda went off on him. My 4 year old daughter comes home from preschool at 11:30 and I was behind in basically EVERYTHING, plus the fact that baby sleeping + daughter gone = the only ME time I get! I had a cup of coffee and watched a show on Netflix. So sue me!!

  • @alyjmac I can't even imagine. I shower daily and wear real clothes mostly to drop off my other kids at school, but immediately change into sweats as soon as I get home. I did 4 loads of dishes in the last 24 hours because I refuse to wash anything by hand. And if it were up to me to cook we'd have take out every night. Tell your SO you'll get back to being "you" in about 3 years.

  • I wish sleeping when baby sleeps is possible. When LO is asleep I'm doing housework, gardening, doing homework with my 6 year old or playing with the 2 year old. No
    Time for naps here.
  • Don't throw stones at me...but am I the only one that can sleep when my LO sleeps?! I get it if you have other younger kids. My other son is 11 so that really isn't a problem because he doesn't need supervision. I don't sleep every time that he does just once, maybe twice a day. Which sounds great, but it really isn't. Lately he's been waking up every hour at night and sleeps longer times during the day. I maybe get an hour total at night, so I have to sleep at some point. Thank god I can fall asleep pretty quickly when I nap. AND the naps that I am getting are maybe an hour to an hour and a half. So, add that up about I get possibly 3 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period. Sleeping has rose pretty high on my list lately. I just feel exhausted. So, even sleeping when the baby sleeps doesn't guarantee that you are getting enough sleep. Blah  I-)

  • I've been hearing this since my baby was born and she's now a month old. But Everytime she sleeps in the day that's when I like to get house chores done. If I sleep when she sleeps nothing else gets done

THIS. My boyfriend expects his lunch made, dinner made, a clean place, and that I will look done up all the time. But then he says I shouldn't be so tired because I can "sleep when the baby sleeps" . I could kill him some days/nights.

Girl friend I've lived alternating the same two pairs of sweat pants and same 4 tshirts for the past month! Lol kudos to you if you can stay done up! I make dinner 3 times a week and keep up with laundry and dishes. I'd kill him too! xD
