  • With my first, I lost 20 lbs in the first 16 weeks. I ended up gaining it back during the rest of my pregnancy. When I delivered, I was actually the same weight as my first OB appt. She was happy and completely healthy.

My second daughter, I lost about 16 lbs in the first Tri and then gained 20 lbs throughout the rest. She is another happy, healthy baby.

I did have vomiting with both pregnancies and a general disinterest in food. I just tried to eat whenever I could and made sure to drink as much water as possible.

  • With both of my previous pregnancies I lost nearly 20 pounds in the first trimester. It was due to a lack of appetite and some bad morning sickness. I did gain it all back in the remainder of the pregnancies though. (Guess that will happen we you attempt to live off of Eggo waffles with Nutella and whipped cream).

If your doctor isn't worried, then you are fine. Take it as a bit of cushion for the intense hunger that comes later on.

I will say I am jealous though, as I have not losses my appetite at all with this one and am already having to dig into my maternity pants because of the bloat!
  • Like @LizC216 said, I lost about 20 pounds in the first few months and ended up only gaining that much back. I, too, ended up at a weight I hadn't seen in a long time by 20 weeks. When I delivered I was 8 lbs heavier than when I got pregnant but only because I gained 8 lbs in water weight the last week from pre-e.

I'm 8w2d now and just in the last few days starting losing weight again. I did end up drinking ensure shakes regularly with DD just to be sure I was getting some necessary nutrients. As long as your doctor isn't concerned I wouldn't be either!

Just wanted to say good point about the Ensure shakes. I forgot that I would drink a chocolate Boost on the mornings I could tolerate it, because when I did feel like eating, it was usually carbs.

  • I have lost 8 lbs in two weeks thanks to non stop sickness. But I tend to always lose weight my first trimester and I'm not on the skinny side so my doctor doesn't worry about it. Baby measures perfect and doc always says for trimester is survival only time as far as sickness goes and doing what it takes to stay hydrated.
