Pregnant after IF

Super high progesterone

I'm 8w4d, and have been taking 2 Prometrium two times a day vaginally since the day after our succesful IUI. I'm supposed to continue until the end of week 11. I got prenatal bloodwork done on Friday, and my progesterone is at 283! Is there any risk to progesterone being that high (normal range is up to 81 or so)? I've been discharged by my RE and just told to keep on taking the progesterone. I have a follow up with my GP who thought the RE was a little overkill with the progestorone, which is now showing up in my bloodwork. What has your experience been? Should I just get in touch with my RE?

Re: Super high progesterone

  • @KidShrink I don't think it can be too high... but I'm not sure. Mine hasn't been tested. I was told to stop taking mine at 8 weeks. I am a little scared to. What is my progesterone really drops and it affects the pregnancy? I am scared something will happen but I've been assured it will be fine.

  • Yeah, that's what I've figured out since. I'm supposed to stop in less than 2 weeks, but I think I'll have a little extra meds so I might just cheat and wean myself off it either. Can't hurt either way, right?
  • I'm thinking about doing the same thing. I have to order more today to have enough to get me through to Monday, so I might just keep taking them but do one a day instead of two. I mean, it can't hurt right?

  • What are you on? I do 200mg (2 pills) of Prometrium twice a day, so a total of 400mg.
  • Same thing. But just one pill twice a day. They're suppositories.

  • I really wonder how they establish what dosages and til when?! Fertility is off-label use for Prometrium anyway (it's meant for menopause), but it seems like each RE has their own 'recipe', and are quite inflexible about it! Oh well!
  • I know, it's so weird how it varies from one RE to the next. I know a lot of people are told to take it to 12 weeks, others 10 weeks, then me at 8 weeks. I don't know how they come up with this stuff.

  • @KidShrink... I've been tracking to see how you've been doing! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! My progesterone was high as well, they had me on 200mg 2x a day, so same as you, 400mg. Even though my levels were okay, my RE kept me on my meds until I was out of my first trimester. Good luck!!! :D
  • @wbird : thanks! 11w2d now, so just a few more days of progesterone supplements! Happy and scared at the same time, but I have to just get over it! I think it's reassuring me that I'll stop on Tuesday and get my NT scan on Friday, so I figure if anything isn't great, I'll know by then!
