2 naps already?? Anyone else

So this is my second baby, so I know things will likely change themselves up before too much longer, but I'm just wondering if any other babies out there have pretty much already put themselves on a 2 nap routine during the day. Honestly, I blame my rambunctious 2 year old and my 8 week old's easy going personality. She wakes up between 6:30 and 7 most mornings when the rest of us get up. Then she either takes a short nap in the bouncer mid morning or she naps while I wear her in a carrier if we are out. Then around noon every day she passes out for a solid 3 1/2 to 4 hours (coincides with my 2 year old's nap time so the house is quieter), then she is pretty much up till I start getting her ready for bed around 6:30. Passes out around 7:00, sleeps till between 12:30-2:30am, eats and goes back to sleep, wakes up once more between 3:30-5am to eat and go back to sleep and that is usually it till morning again. She seems to be healthy and content, but its just so odd to me that she has the same schedule pretty much my daughter did starting at around 14 or 15 months old only with a longer afternoon nap.... Her overall quantity of sleep seems okay (usually 16ish hours), but it just such a change from my older daughter who cat napped till she was much closer to a year old.

  • @heath3er Trust me. I have no secret. My first daughter cat napped during the day (usually in arms), screamed for about 2-3 hours every night before bed till around 6-7 months old, and was up at least 3-4 times a night till 14-15 months old. I honestly believe it is 90% luck and 10% routine when it comes to LO sleep because we have not done anything different with this one other than having my 2 year old here during the day.

It really is a little disconcerting though. I'm not messing with it, but it just worries me that she has such large blocks of sleep at this age and large blocks of awake time. She is eating every 1-2 hours while awake and so far my breastmilk supply is keeping up, but its just odd.
  • This is similar to my LO's schedule but DS2 goes down for a short evening nap around 6 because we do our bedtime closer to 8:30 or 9pm.  He can't stay up that long to make it until bedtime.  He also wakes up a bit later around 8 or 9 am at 8 weeks old.

I actually like it because he naps when my toddler is napping so I frequently get 2 or 3 hours when both kids are in bed during the day.  I do try to encourage it by actually putting him to sleep for his big nap. His other sleeps are while being held, worn or in his carseat while we are out but at noon I do a whole nap routine with bottle, diaper change, sleepsuit and bed.  It seems to work most days and he actually isn't awake that long in between, maybe the longest is 2 hours.

  • My mid day nap is shorter than yours (2.5-3 hours) but he only takes that from about 10:30-12:30-1ish and then takes a much shorter 45-1 hour nap around 3:30/4 and that's it for us.

Of course, that could change tomorrow, but he's been doing that for about 3 weeks now.

  • My LO sounds like your first child. Only catnaps here and there. If I'm lucky she will sleep 1-3 hours sometime between 11am-3pm but that happens maybe 2x per week.
