FTM shopping question . . ?

I will be 12 weeks Saturday and get to finally find out the baby's gender on Halloween the 31st. I have been stressed lately dealing with work and another situation (nothing major) but to get my mind off things a bit i was thinking about going to Babies R Us Friday and getting a few small items. Gender neutral of course. Pacifier, receiving blanket, socks, and onesies. Just dont want to feel like I'm jumping the gun or anything. Baby is fine. I listen to the heartbeat daily once i get off work. I just thinking getting the baby a few things will brighten up my weekend!

  • I've bought some books so far for the baby.  Ones that I used to love as a child.  The only people that would even consider getting them are my parents and they already know I have them.  I don't see anything wrong with picking up a little outfit/blanket/toy if it's going to make you happy :)
  • Another idea may be to start a registry. Even if you don't think you'll have a shower, you'll end up with a registry completion discount. All the fun of picking things out without costing anything.

  • I might hold off on getting one season sucks just because most people will buy you clothes feel fine. With my first I had so many clothes it was ridiculous and I didn't buy any of them. You can never have enough pacifier so I say go for that blankets or another thing I might hold off on. Burp cloths you can never have enough of so if you want to splurge on those go ahead

    And see I would say hold off on getting too much of anything because you never know what baby will like. DS HATED pacifiers, swings, we didn't use burp cloths really, etc.. even with stockpiling diapers, I had a friend who's DD skin was so sensitive she had to get a very specific type of diapers to keep her from having awful rashes.

    Then again I was like you with my first, I was a crazy shopper and couldn't get enough of the baby items. This time around, I have approximately zero desire to buy anything. I had to get DS a new convertible car seat/high back booster because he's outgrown his current by height but I want to keep him in a 5 point harness for as long as possible (he will be 5 in Jan), and even walking through the baby section at Target I was like eh... no.

    Have fun and save your receipts! (;
  • I think this is totally fine! I still remember the little items I bought each child before I knew their sex (usually gender neutral PJs and gowns). It's such a special fun time, and there's no harm in it. :)

  • With DS I bought myself a diaper bag. I had been looking and when I found the right one I went for it. That's felt great. I also had a blanket picked out had DS been a DD but ended up with a lovey for him instead that he still sleeps with to this day. They were things I didn't think anyone would buy for me and I was happy to get them. I say go for it and enjoy. Just don't buy too much in case you have a shower.

    A painting or artwork for the babyroom?
    DH and I kinda went a lil overboard when we saw the Dr.Seuss prints and taxidermy art. We got the print for ourselves but we said it'd be for the baby room when we get pregnant. Makes us smile when we see it every day now that we know where it'll be placed next year.
  • Do you knit or crochet? I just picked out the yarn for my son's first blanket
  • I bought diapers, a pacifier, some gender neutral gowns, and a cute onesie hat set from H&M.
