June 2016 Moms

I'm having (almost) Irish Twins! Are you?

Hello! I'm new to The Bump app! I'm 24 and have been married 3 years. I miscarried my first pregnancy in June 2012. I had my rainbow daughter May 4, 2015 and to my surprise last month I found out I am pregnant with my second, due June 2, 2016. I'm excited but completely overwhelmed with he thought of having to babies back to back. I had a safe, healthy vaginal delivery with my daughter. So I know what's to come. But I feel like I have no support from family. They all are really upset I didn't choose birth control after delivery.

Is anyone else here having Irish twins or had two back to back? Any tips, suggestions? Things we need? Advice? I'm all ears, especially since I don't have the full support of my mother...

My two will be about 19 months apart, but just wanted to tell you that you have come to the right place for a little emotional support! I hope your mom will eventually come around. My MIL was not happy when we got pregnant with DS bc we were still 3 months away from our wedding & it was heartbreaking to feel like I did something wrong in her eyes, but she eventually got over it & became excited (much after the wedding).

Your daughter is beautiful :) welcome!

    Irish twins here!
  • Congrats! Mine are 18 months apart, and it is great having 2 in close to the same stage! They will always have a best friend!
  • Thank you all... I'm just really nervous. I don't want to rush DD into growing up. She'll still be fully dependent on my by the time baby #2 arrives.

Dang girl. Mine will be 21 months apart and I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little overwhelmed about it. But you have come to the right place! There is also a "2 under 2" board you should check out!

  • First of all, congrats!

My first two are only 16 months apart and it was way easier than I expected. I live on the opposite side of the country from my family, so there has never been a lot of family involvement here either. I was so nervous that having two so close in age would be hard (and it it sometimes) but I wouldn't have it any other way. They are developing back to back, and DS is helping DD progress as well. Plus, they're best friends. There seems to be plenty of mamas here in the same boat, so I'm sure there won't be a shortage of advice and support! :)

  • My DS and DD are 14 months apart. They are best friends!!! DD was a surprise (I was on bc) and the announcement of my pregnancy was not received well. Everyone treated her as an oops. It was depressing. I know that I had just had a baby but it was really hurtful. I hope they turn around for you. It's not an easy situation to deal with at all!

  • First off, Congratulations, every baby is a miracle, we just found out we will have 2 under 2, total surprise as I am still BF and never got my cycle back, but our families are over the moon excited and I feel like I got hit by a semi by 8 pm, also a SAHM, but I think it's great, I'd rather be crazy now have then all close, than farther apart. The harder part is going to be announcing outside of family, as some people I know are struggling to conceive, which is just so hard to see.
  • Congratulations! My LOs will be 18 months apart, and I have heard so many good things about having kids close. I understand that it'll be overwhelming at first, but I love the idea that my kids will grow up being friends. Good luck! :)

Congratulations! We are having Irish twins and cannot be more excited! DS was born June 22 of 2015 and LOs EDD is June 7 2016. I have always wanted twins and the next best thing is Irish twins! I wasn't expecting to get pregnant so quickly because I am still exclusively breastfeeding. However, I got my cycle back 6 weeks pp so I kept telling everyone if I get pregnant again it's meant to be. Everyone knows I wanted Irish twins though half looked at me like I was crazy and the other half didn't believe I was serious. My sister knows and she is super excited. When my mom finds out she will be as well ( I have a feeling she already knows though). We are telling everyone (my side and Hs side) Thursday at Hs birthday dinner. Not sure how my MIL will take the news though.

  • My two will be 18 months apart. I'm grateful that both our parents are totally excited; it sucks that yours aren't. My mom had a few close together too and she said it's hard at first, when they're both really little, but it gets much easier when they're older and they can play together. My sister was 14 months older than me and we were best friends as kids! (And still good friends. :) A pregnancy is cause for congratulations no matter how old your other kids are, so congratulations!

  • My first two are 25 months apart. I'm now pregnant with my 3rd and will have a 17 month age gap. It's going to be insane some days, but I know the hard parts will pass as they all grow up. I'm keeping my eyes on the prize!!
  • Congrats! That's awesome! My DD will be almost 3 when this one is born. However my husband has a twin and an older brother who is only 18 months older and to this day (they are 25 and 26 years old) the three are best friends.
    Congrats again
  • I love hearing a everyone's story of how they know of or are and Irish twin and the the best of friends. H and I are really hoping for that kind of relationship with DS and out littlest little!
  • I'm having Irish twins as well! Had my first June 22 2015 and expecting June 2016. We want to keep it a secret until Christmas and surprise our families then but it's harder to keep this pregnancy a secret than the first one. Can't wait to see the expressions we get.
  • Can't relate, but just had to say your daughter is such a cutie, and congrats! :)

  • Like PPs mine will also be 18 months apart and while I am freaking out at times about how I will cope on the other I am so excited for DD that she will have a sibling close in age to hang with. I think having a newborn is tough regardless and we will know no different anyway. Your family will hopefully come round once the shock wears off. This will be a good support system for you until they do. Good luck!

  • Had my baby girl May 27 2015 and I'm due with our second the middle of next June. I'm excited and terrified at the same time!
  • @karinatach my first was also born June 22!! Second is estimated June 8 but waiting on my sono Monday! How about you? Was your first boy or girl? We had a boy. It is soooooo hard to keep it a secret! We have told our parents and siblings but that's it. DH wants to wait until thanksgiving to tell everyone else, I don't know how long I can hold it in though!
  • @blondie1314 we had a boy too and I'm kind of hoping to have a boy again since I have mostly boy things already especially lots of cloths this one didn't even get to wear. I'm due I believe June 11 but don't have my doctors appointment until November 19th by them I'll be around 13 weeks I think. That is kind of helping us not telling anyone because I just want to make sure everything is ok with the baby before we make an announcement. What were your symptoms with the first one and how are you feeling this time around?
  • Congrats!  If my first pregnancy had not ended with mc (and I had not been early) I would be having true irish twins.  My MIL is an almost irish twin and a former colleague of mine just had her 3rd in 3 years.  You got this!  Just think of how close they will be!

@karinatach Yes! I think it will be great if it's a boy too since they will be so close in age and I also have a lot of things he hasn't worn. I loved being pregnant first time around. That's probably why I got pregnant so fast again; I wasn't scared of it.

Honestly, the only way I can describe my symptoms during my first pregnancy was just feeling very hungover! I would wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and still be half asleep and say "ughhhh why did I drink so much last night!!" Then I'd remember I was pregnant. That's how I new I was pregnant again. I woke up one Saturday morning in September with that same thought and was like waittttt I didn't drink last night (I'm still nursing) and I was like ohhhhh I guess I'm pregnant again! So, so far I'm feeling the same second time around. And also vivid and WEIRD dreams with both pregnancies.

How about you? How did DH take the news? I thought mine would be nervous and would take a bit to sink in, but he's really excited especially for DS.

    Edit: for spelling
  • Mine will be 15 months apart and I am totally nervous!! Happy to have a new blessing but I wasn't quite ready to be pregnant again.
  • What is the def of "Irish Twins?"
  • Mine will be 20 months apart
  • @blondie1314 my first time around I was very sick and the hole pregnant just had everything you can think of, bad hearburns, hospitalized for nausea, dizzy spells. With this pregnancy I feel absolutely nothing. Ocassionaly I get a little nauseous if I don't eat for too long (happened 3 times so far) or I wake up hungry at night (never did with my first). Sometimes I wonder if I'm really pregnant but I took 4 test that confirmed that#

DH took it way better than me. Since it was so unexpected to both of us we were in shock well obviously we knew it can happen any time it's just with our first it took almost a year and this time it was on the first try. To be honest I cried while my DH was comforting me saying everything will be good. I was just to in shock and I am still breastfeeding as well so the first thing that came to my mind is that I'll lose all my milk.
  • My girls are 14 months apart and I wouldn't change it for the world! They're got a best friend for life :) Congratulations, I'm sure your family will come around but I do know how hurtful it is when they aren't supportive. You're daughter is adorable!!

  • This will be our first baby but just wanted to say that my hubby and his brother are almost Irish twins. They were born 13 months apart and they have the best stories from growing up, playing on the same sports teams as kids and a built in best friend forever. Congrats!
