Holy crap, these middle of the night horribly painful leg cramps are going to make me want to cut off my leg from the knee down pretty soon. Anyone else having trouble with them? I'm talking the ones where you move your leg apparently just enough in the wrong way that it feels like someone has put a vice on your calf muscle, and when you try to stretch to release it you feel like that vice has gotten tighter, and your muscle is about to rip! I've read it can be a potassium deficiency or that it just needs to be stretched out regularly (Thank you captain obvious), but seriously my calf is still hurting a week later. Oddly enough it seems to be mostly happening to my right leg more than my left, and I notice that my hip on that side makes a little popping sound quite often when I walk. I used to be a competitive cheerleader, so my body has been through the ringer with injuries, and I've had these cramps happen before, but I feel like they are happening much more often while pregnant. I'll definitely bring this up to my doctor tomorrow, but in the meantime does anyone have any advice for what has helped them either relieve the pain or prevent them?
Re: Vice Grip Leg Cramps!
-- gentle heat compress & massage with coconut oil before bed.
-- put a pillow between your knees. This helped me the most.
Ask your doc about magnesium supplements.

I do this also and it works imedietly to get rid of it!
I just wanted to share:
I went in for my injection yesterday, and told the nurse about the issues I'm having with my left leg. She mentioned that her grandfather used to get them all the time, and he said the thing that helped him most with his leg cramps was drinking a glass/bottle of Gatorade before bed at night. It makes sense to me and sounds like it could work- after all, most athletes drink it to replace electrolytes lost during muscle exertion. Electrolytes do include potassium. So maybe if you are like me and can't eat bananas like they are going out of style (I don't care for the texture), try an electrolyte replacement drink.
