Floppy larynx/laryngomalacia

Our little guy has had very noisy breathing pretty much since the day we brought him home, sounce very similar to being very congested, but only at certain times and gets to the point when he is crying where it sounds like he almost can't get a breath in. Our pediatrician says that it is most likely floppy larynx and nothing to really worry about, however I am a huge worry wart when it comes to my baby. Has anyone had any experience with this or words of advice for this? Or even just words of encouragement, I hate having to just sit and listen to him breath like that!

Re: Floppy larynx/laryngomalacia

  • My son has this too and combined with a deviated septum, he's a noisy breather at times. Good news is that many kiddos outgrow it.
We saw an ENT doc (ear, nose and throat) who examined him with the little camera down his nose and he didn't seem concerned about it because it's common. It makes him squeak a little (stridor) but no big deal.

I'd say if you're really freaked out to see an ENT doctor to be sure that's what it is. The exam makes the baby VERY uncomfortable, but it's fairly short. Not much they can do about it, though.
