Failed IVF cycle- new doctor?

Hi ladies,

Thank you all for your kind words about my chemical pregnancy. We are heart broken, but I know I need to move forward. I am very disillusioned with the process. We did genetic testing, PDG and I did everything possible to make this pregnancy stay. We also only had one me embryo..:(

So, I think there has to be a deeper cause for my infertility which my current Doctor is simply not looking into. Not that he is not a good doctor, but his is stretched...we went to rma of NYC and there are no less that 30-40 women being treated at once!

A while back, I bought the "Making Babies" book which was write. By Dr. Sami David - who specializes in non-IVF treatments with a high rate of success...he is know as the infertility detective. I highly recommend the book. This is also one of the reasons I started accupuncture - the co-author is a well know Accupuncturist.

Before we go ahead and spend $ on another cycle (not sure at this point that this makes sense for us ) I need to get closer to the root of what is going on. He doesn't take insurance, but I rather spend some $ to have a doctor really looks at my case.

Have any of you used him or have any feedback?

Re: Failed IVF cycle- new doctor?

  • Hi! So sorry about ur chemical. If u feel u are not being properly diagnosed, definitely explore other options. I can only give my own opinion which is... 1). 30-40 women being treated isn't an outrageous number by any means 2). It takes many women many tries to have success with ivf, this is no reflection on the doctor, it's just the nature of the beast 3). It's also not uncommon to only end up with one or two embryos...when I did mine I only had 5 mature eggs, and we ended up with two embryos. If it were me, I would give it another chance with ur doc but I can definitely understand the frustration and wanting further answers. Best of luck to u!!

  • @pascorra I was actually thinking of making a similar post and asking for referrals in NYC if this cycle doesn't work, so thank you! DH and I go to RMA and have not found the experience to be positive even though theoretically the results have been positive in that we have frozen embryos. I often feel like just a statistic to them or I feel silly and belittled by my RE for asking questions. To be fair, some of this is just personality conflict and a mismatch of our expectations and reality. Not everyone at RMA has this experience and their stats are very good.

We are 100% switching REs bc we don't like ours, but would prefer a more interactive clinic. For example, RMA no longer provides embryo updates btwn day 1 and 5 solely bc they 'have too many patients.' We are considering the Cornell center possibly for our next round. Sorry I don't have feedback on the RE you're thinking of!
  • My best friend went to Cornell and had a positive experience. She also just delivered a baby boy! You have to go with your gut...something has always fell off to me with rma. Even though they have the best stats in NYC.

What I like about this new doctor is that he specializes in non-IVF treatments..and the level of detail my husband and I need is more in line with that. He also treats women labeled with unknown infertility which is my case. I just want to get closer to what the real issue is. I feel that at rma the protocol is the same for everyone. Even though everyone's bodies are different. I will post when I see him... Is not until the end of the month though.

Best of luck to you and the embryos you have, I would recommend that you just outline questions each step of the way and ask what you need, you are paying enough $$ for it.

  • I actually have a consult next week with a new RE if my FET fails (will know on Friday where we stand).  Such a hard decision to make though..........

  • I'm starting my 3rd fresh cycle next month after 2 failed cycles and no frozen embies to show for it.  I did think about changing RE's and even told my RE that on the phone, I go to a wonderful RE who never has more than 3-4 people waiting at a time. This past weekend I went in to my consult about the last cycle with a feeling in my gut that I was walking out of there and changing RE's, well my RE surprised me, he had an entirely new plan written up, had spent time going over everything from the past 2 cycles and walked me through what was going to be different this time around.  I honestly think it's such a personal decision to switch dr's and if your gut and heart tells you to do it than you know better than anyone.  Wishing you the best!

  • My husband and I met with our RE on Thursday to discuss our failed first IVF cycle. She was great and genuinely sad that our 4 embryos were PGD abnormal. I had a really hard time going to the office and got very emotional the second I walked into the building. Our RE was very realistic about the possibility that we could get the same results again, but has changed my protocol, started me on metformin and inositol supplement for egg quality. As much as we like her, I feel that if she had planned to use the same protocol I would have considered a second opinion. Our office treats us like people though, I'm in Atlanta and there are several larger facilities that my friends have gone to (and left) because you are a case # not a person trying hard to have a baby. I also LOVE my IVF nurse, who very kindly gave me samples of many of my stim drugs to help out with our next cycle. I think based on your description that changing RE may be what you need @pascorra and I hope you find someone who takes great care of you!

TTC for Baby #1 for 3 years. After 2 failed IUI's & IVFs, God blessed us with our miracle :).  FET 12/17/15 (transferred 2 embryos at 5days). First Beta 12/29/15 = 354. Second Beta 12/31/15 = 694. Third Beta 1/7/16 = 6,695.  Finally heard his heartbeat (126)  on 1/14/16 @ our 1st US.  2nd US on 1/21/16, HR was 159.  The most beautiful sound ever :)
