Favorite Mocktail

What are you drinking these days? I drank a lot of La Croix during my last pregnancy - got to have something when everyone else is drinking beer! But, I'd love to hear your favorite Mocktail ideas! I'm from a family of big drinkers and have a family event coming up. I'd like to announce on my terms, not get called out 5 minutes in. So, I'm think I'll bring a "sangria" or something. Any ideas?

Re: Favorite Mocktail

  • Last time around I had crushed ice with sprite zero and I would put strawberry daquari flavoring in it.  Put it in a fancy glass and it helped with wanting a cocktail during summer cookouts.

As for faking it, it's football season and drinking during tailgates is a big part of the party.  I have a Tervis that says "mommy's sippy cup" with a lid.  I'm just going to "mix" my own drinks and since it has a lid no one can smell that there is no bourbon in the cup.  Bourbon and diet coke is my go to during football season.  I'm not a beer drinker so I can get away with that.  I'm also claiming "low carb diet" to get away with no mimosas or just plain OJ because it will give me heartburn.  If you're out at a bar, quietly tell the bartender to make your drinks in the regular cocktail glass.  You can also use the excuse that you're on meds that don't mix with alcohol.

  • @likeabel - I come from a family of big drinkers too so I feel you (by Thanksgiving I'll be past 12 weeks so the cat will be out of the bag by then thankfully).  I have an event this weekend too with H's friends (well, mine too, but they were H's friends first) who are big drinkers.  I don't mind telling them but H doesn't want to yet.  The event is at our house (and we have two fridges...one downstairs in the basement and one in the kitchen).  I plan on storing a bottle of sparking grape juice downstairs and drinking that out of a champagne glass (I'll keep real champagne upstairs too in case someone else wants some "of what I have").  Other than that, tonic water with lime is always a good fake drink as is cranberry juice and tonic water.
  • Fill an empty bottle of vodka with water and drink whatever you like. ;)  Mine is always just soda water.  Or La Croix.

  • Last time I was pregnant we had a bunch of weddings to go to before I was ready to tell anyone. My husband would order me a club soda with a splash of cranberry and a splash of pineapple at the bar and it was delicious. They'd put it in a regular cocktail glass so it didn't set off any alarms. And of course NOT toasting with the champagne is dead giveaway, just had my sister-in-law tell me she saw a girl she suspected may be pregnant do this at a wedding and it confirmed her suspicions.

For family events, I still accept the drink or glass of wine offered to not raise any red flags then just leave it around for my husband to drink at some point. Last night at my in-laws for dinner I had a glass of wine in front of me at the table like everybody else but only took the first sip when it was handed to me.

My favorite mocktail at home is club soda and pink lemonade, with mint if we have it.
  • At the wedding I was at on the weekend, they had this drink called the big apple. It was super tasty. I wish I could remember what was in it..

Apple juice, soda water, grenadine, frozen fruit...... I think I'm forgetting something.

Except they kept putting white straws in nonalcoholic drinks which is pretty much like a FLAG, I kept throwing them out to be discreet

When I was pregnant with DS & so so soooo sick of water, I used to have restaurants muddle any fruit they had behind the bar & add club soda. Most of them did a good job.
  • Margarita mix no tequila :(

  • If anyone has a recipe for a mock margarita, I'm interested :) For now, just fruit infused water, although even that is getting old fast..

  • Bottles of coffee flavourings make for excellent mocktails. ;)

Also, mix equal parts white grape juice and ginger ale for something that looks just like champagne (but tastes way better)!

@CWG22  Hopefully your sister-in-law wasn't at the same wedding as me this past weekend! I was fine ordering either gingerale or cranberry juice in a cocktail glass at the bar but I had NO CLUE what to do when it came to the champagne!!!!! I tried to pretend drink it and quickly give it to my husband but I am pretty sure the jig is up.

  • Mmmm my mouth is already watering! And I completely forgot about the wedding I'm going to next weekend! I'll have to practice switching glasses with DH in case there's a champagne toast!
