Help gas issues

Last night was by far the worst night that we had. He has a really hard time getting burping. It seems all of a sudden out when I breast-feed him he squirms and kind of cries and arches his back because I could hear him swallowing air but I don't know how is doing it. Can anyone give me some suggestions on burping the baby without your traditional over the knee or sitting up rider over the shoulder. Diet has not changed.

  • Our LO does best with a back rub rather than pats on the back!

  • I have been doing gas drops after each feeding, burping every 10-15 minutes and then push legs up and on the shoulder back pats. My LO has had more gas as my milk has increased! She also arches back and has a hard time latching at night!
  • We've been burping our little guy by doing "tummy time" on my chest with his chest against mine and his hands up by his face, then pat his back. He always lifts his head up to look at me and almost always burps at that point when he lifts his head.

We also use Gas Relief Drops (Little Remedies brand) after most feedings. He loves the flavor!
  • Our pedi had us give DD1 1oz of chamomile tea daily. It really helped.

  • I bounce my LOs. Sit him up on your lap facing you with your hands under his shoulders and fingers supporting his head. If you bounce him you will be able to hear any bubbles and they should come out mix easier. If I'm still struggling to get one and I can hear it in there I will alternate between that and over the shoulder. The combination usually does the trick.
  • If you move baby's legs like a bicycle it's supposed to help with gas
  • We use gas drops, but I don't like using them very often. I found holding her with her tummy against my breast and patting helps. Also holding her on my arm face down with the butt of my hand pressed gently on her belly and pat her butt, she farts pretty well doing these.
