Panorama????

Is anyone or has anyone getting the panorama blood test? It checks for genetic disorders and can tell the sex of the baby! Just want to hear what others think about it.

Re: Panorama????

  • I'm not considered high risk, so I doubt my insurance will cover it.

Finding out the sex at 9 weeks or 20 weeks doesn't make any difference to me personally, so I would only get the test for the genetic results if my doctor feels I need it for some reason.

Are you considered high risk or have genetic disorders in your or SO's family?

  • I'm not considered high risk but my insurance covers the genetic testing so we will be having that done. My insurance doesn't cover having the cystic fibrosis, the nurse said this test can run up to $800.

  • The test offered by my OB is called Verifi but it's the same thing. We will be having it done in 4 weeks! Knowing the sex is an added bonus for us because DH just wants to buy anything and everything and stepson wants to know if we can really keep calling it Captain America (obviously he's hoping for a brother). It's $25 out of pocket for me and I have no history of disorders however my DHs bio-father is adopted so his family history is unclear.
  • As I've said in a bunch of other posts about this, the test I'm having (the Verifi test) and likely the others have out of pocket maximums, so even if insurance won't cover it, you might be able to get one without paying a fortune.  The maximum for the Verifi test is $99.

You shouldn't have to be classified as high risk in order to have as much information as possible about your baby, if you want it.

  • I just had mine done last week and will get the results in one week. It cost me $650 and I am responsible for paying 100% of the costs. I am not in the US, however which means what is covered for me and how long results take to come back varies. I believe my test will get sent to California.

I'm over 35 so I'm at increased risk for a few disorders and so I opted for the early screening. If something is wrong, I want to know as soon as possible. Checking the sex on this test is not automatic, but I checked that box. Figured I may as well find out as much as I can, since I'm paying for it.
