37 weeks with UTI? Aside from popping these antibiotics twice a day, what does this mean for me?

37+3 with a negative strep but my urine was positive for nitrates today. Aside from taking these pills does a UTI have any effect on 1) my baby 2)my labor and delivery?

I haven't seen any reason why it would have an effect on delivery, like sexton vs vaginal, but jjst seeing if others out there have had this at this point in pregnancy.

  • I had a pretty bad UTI when I was about 26 weeks and I'm 40+3 now. I was on antibiotics twice a day for 7 days. Then it came back & it turned into a really bad kidney infection. They gave me the same thing but for 10 days. I was concerned about my baby's health since I was taking them for so long but he's healthy! As for labor goes, I'm not sure how/if it will interfere with anything. I don't think it will though.

  • In not quite sure what you are asking. I'm GBS positive so I will be on antibiotics during labor and don't see how that would affect anything. I doubt your OB would give you drugs at this stage if there was a problem.

  • Honestly....I'm not even sure what I'm asking! I guess just if it had any impact on anything during your pregnancy outside of having to pill pop.
  • I was told if I had a UTI or kidney infection during delivery they will give you antibiotics. Beforehand there aren't really any side effects for the baby. You may want your baby to get some probiotics after he or she is born because antibiotics can reduce the flora in your intestines. This makes digestion harder. I had a UTI at 24 weeks and plan on giving my LO probiotics when he can have them. I'll have to check with his pediatrician first.
