LO loss of appetite.. anyone else?

After my son was born he lost 11% of his body weight. I started supplementing with formula right away and breast feeding when my milk came in to get him back up quickly. By 2 weeks he was passed his birth weight and doing great but now he seems to be eating less. This worries me. I expected him to increase not decrease his appetite! Maybe he just needed more in the beginning? Did this happen to any one else? Seeing a laceration consultant tomorrow.

  • I'd only be concerned if he's no longer gaining weight properly. Have you had him weighed lately?

  • I feel my LO has also loss his appetite. He was drinking 4oz and now drinks 2 or 3oz, i do feel he is gaining weight but this is weird. Let us know what the pedi said.
  • My LO is doing the same thing. He's never been a big eater, but we were getting up to 3-4 oz bottles and now he's eating 1.5-2.5 oz. He's still gaining weight so far, but his appetite has only dropped in the last 5 days. Some people have said growth spurts can cause this, but I thought they ate more during growth spurts.

My LO has done the same thing lately. He was drinking 4 oz and now he has times where he will only drink 2 to 3 oz. He's doubled his weight since he was born (he was 6 weeks early) so his weight gain has been great. I'm not sure what's going on with lil dude but maybe he was taking the 4 oz really well because of a growth spurt and now he's plateaued?
  • Babies get more efficient at breastfeeding as they get older, so they take less time to get the same or even more milk in one session. Maybe do a weighed feeding to see what LO is taking?
