Baby Names

Really struggling with a girl name

Found out we are going to be having a baby girl and I am thrilled! But we had a shortlist of boy names and are stumped by girl names.

One day, if we are blessed with a son, he will be Joel or Josiah (to give you a sense of our style)

We "like" but don't "love"
Elizabeth
Amelia
Ellie (love but soooo popular!)
Esme

Her middle name will be Lynn and that is non-negotiable. Last name Garza.

We live on a few acres and have farm animals. We are professional dog trainers. So I imagine she will be somewhat tomboyish, at least outdoorsy and active. Very open to suggestions but trying to avoid her name being overly popular as I am An early 90s Ashley and there were 3-4 other Ashley's in my class in almost every grade.

Re: Really struggling with a girl name

  • How about:

    Este
    Imogen
    Mia
Evelyn (eliminating Lynn as the middle name)
    Edie

  • Ivy? Similar sound to Ellie, but not nearly as popular.
  • Yael
Arielle or Ariella (and Ellie for a nn)
    Judith
    Juliette
    Eleanor
    Charlotte
    Annabelle
    Rebecca (or spelled Rebekah)
    Iris
    Delilah
    Leah

Your boy names have a different feel to me than your girl names. Your boy names are biblical, while girl names are more classic, old-time. I tried to give names with both feels.

  • Love Arielle as a suggestion.

We have some common names we like, so here is my "short" list:

Isla, Inez, Carys, Maude, Delia, Rosalyn, Blythe, Alice, Reese, Harper, Emmeline, Maxine, June, Maeve, Annaliese, Tabitha, Elliana, Bryn, Brooke, Heidi, Holly, Felicity, Julianne, Vera, Adelaide, Grace, Mary, Hope, Elyse, Noelle, Violet, Vivienne, Clara, Cora, Verity, Elise, Opal, Alison, Elizabeth, Sybil, Margaret
  • Honestly, if I see the name Esme one more time, I'm going to vomit.  Please, don't give your child a name from Twilight.

    That aside, I like Amelia.

  • Honestly not a twilight reference at ALL. Don't like the series and didn't even know the name was from there until recently.
  • From your list I like Amelia the best but I think it's in the top 15 names in the US. If that doesn't bother you then go for it!

  • Emmery Lynn. She could also go by Emmy for short.

Emmery is a stolen boy name Emory.

    Este would not be good.

One of my best friends in high school was named Bethany Lynn.
I think it could fit b/c she was like a girly tomboy, grew up running around in creeks with dogs and getting muddy everyday, but was also very poised and loved playing with makeup and hair.
It's totally an old name, but will always be pretty to me.

    Edited...original was too wordy.
  • Don't choose any of these suggestions that end with an L. Your middle name begins with an L. It'll all run together and be cacophonous.

I really liked somebody's suggestion of Ivy. That name is precious.

  • Eve or Evie would be similar to Ella but not as popular. Plus they are short and sweet so perfect if she is tomboyish, not fussy. I have always loved Emma too. On your list I absolutely only like Amelia. And just a consideration... Claire. This is the name we have chosen if it's a girl and I think it's awesome! Classic but hasn't made a huge comeback yet, can't be short formed into anything, short and sweet and while it is feminine I can also picture it on a sporty outdoorsy girl. Obviously I am biased on that one but just a thought:)
  • Hmmm, maybe a nature name would be nice.
