Nervous wreck!

at five weeks five days a sac was found but nothing in it. They said it was common and not to worry but then they prepared me for what happens if they still don't see anything in one week. I'm exactly six weeks today and have a little follow up and I'm so nervous! When did you start to see movement in the sac?

The earliest ultrasound I had, I was measuring 6 weeks, 3 days. Baby had a heartbeat at that point.

Fingers crossed everything goes ok at your appointment!

ETA: Everyone is different and every pregnancy is different. I was just giving mine as a reference.

  • Try to relax-- it's very normal to not see much of anything before 6 or 7 weeks. Many doctor's offices will warn even at 6 weeks that they might not see anything clearly yet on the ultrasound. There have been a few threads on this if you search May2016 board (ultrasound, sac/yolk sac, & fetal pole would all be good search terms for this). I hope your follow-up goes well!
  • Hoping everything turns out for you. It is still early so hoping for the best!
  • That just happened to me but I thought I was 6 weeks 3 days. Doctor said I could be closer to 5 and a half weeks . He took blood work to check levels and I have to go back Sunday to recheck and make sure they are doubling . I'm trying not to think worst case scenario but I have generalized anxiety so it's hard . My husband is also going away this weekend and I feel like I'm coming down with something so it's just frustrating . Anyway I hope to hear it works out for you and that everything continues to progress !!!!
  • Totally normal! Most of the time I don't see a fetal pole until 6 weeks plus. Very rarely will I see them at 5 weeks 4/5 days as "the diamond ring sign". This is why so many OB's prefer patients to wait till 7/8 weeks for their first ultrasound. I know waiting is stressful though. Thoughts and prayers that you see that little heart flicker next time!

  • this exact thing happened to me last week! my husband is an eternal pessimist and is not keeping positive but I know my body and I know this isn't like when I had a mc in January.

I'm 6 weeks tomorrow adjusted. I go back Thursday for a follow up ultrasound. I went in the first place because my hcg went from 1717 to 2559 in 48 and they were concerned. sac but no yolk.

sending you positive vibes ❤️❤️ keep me posted!
  • I had a gestational sac at five weeks and two days. I was really scared even though the doctor said I was on track and that seeing the yolk sac at that point would have been a "bonus". I had a gestational sac, yolk sac and "diamond ring" (fetal pole) at five weeks and six days. Today, I heard the heartbeat at seven weeks. Hang in there...I know it's hard.
  • As others have said, try to relax. I'm not a doctor, but I know there are some OBGYN nurses floating around here, so maybe they can weigh in. Unless there is a history of losses (and I hope that is not the case for you, OP), why do physician's offices schedule these u/s so early when there is so little chance of seeing anything? It seems like it just causes  anxiety. I would also be a nervous wreck. But I didn't get my u/s until 8 weeks, and at that time, the dr. was able to see a blob that they tell me is the baby.
