C-section scheduled!!! Now what?

We were able to pick the birthday for our precious little baby today. He is breeched and my pelvis is too small for him to be turned, so we scheduled a section for the 23rd of this month. I am very excited because this is our first baby and I'm just happy to get him here safely.
What to do now? How do I prepare for this? What do I need to pack? What do I need to expect? So many questions!! I'll take all the advice I can get!

Re: C-section scheduled!!! Now what?

  • My only real advice is for packing, make sure you have some sort of snacks packed for after you deliver. Even if someone brings them to you later on in the day. The hospital food wasn't cutting it and bring up all night between feelings I was so hungry. I'm so glad dad brought me muffins before he went home for the night. :)

  • I've had two previous c-sections and will be having my third on the 15th. My biggest advice for first time c-section moms is to stay on top of your pain medication and get up and walk often (for short periods of time) as soon as you are given the okay. It helped me bounce back a lot faster with my second daughter. It is probably going to feel like the last thing you want to do though. Good luck with everything!
  • I'm going in for my second c-section tomorrow. My recommendation is bring comfy night gowns and things to do because you are there a few extra days. Also breastfeeding can be a little more complicated with a c-section so don't beat yourself up stick with it if your planning to do it and don't be afraid to ask for help.
  • Take the stool softeners; if they don't give them to you, ask for them. Don't be embarrassed, I promise you will want them!

Nursing pillows are awesome if you plan to breastfeed! It may hurt your incision to breastfeed for a few days because breastfeeding causes the uterus to contract. Lots of deep breaths and Netflix helped distract me
  • And listen to the restrictions they give you! Your scar needs to heal well on the inside and the outside!

Also, after you're cleared to start getting back to exercising and whatnot (my doctor told me six weeks), I found that planks were much better for tightening things up again than other types of exercises like crunches. Especially because planks don't involve moving and stretching that scar. (But I moved onto other ab workouts eventually too. Just a random thought haha)
