Really bad back pain?

Hi everyone. I'm 35 weeks tomorrow and I have a question. For the past several hours I've been having basically unbearable back pack. I'm almost in tears and have (accidentally) moaned out loud a couple times because it hurts so bad. It doesn't matter how I lay, it won't go away. It's even difficult to stand up straight because my back hurts so bad. And it's an all-over pain, not just lower back.

I don't have a heating pad, I can't take a bath, and tylenol isn't making any difference. Anyone have any experience with this or any idea what else I can try?

Also want to add that I've already been in labor twice with this pregnancy so I kind of know what to expect; I definitely do not think I'm in labor or anything.

Re: Really bad back pain?

  • Either you need to drink more water or go to a chiropractor! I went last week for horrible back pain I couldn't walk and seriously the next day I felt amazing after seeing the chiro! Call adap in the morning!

I already drink ~8 bottles of water a day; if I drink any more water I'm going to start getting sick haha. I'll see about a chiro...not too sure my insurance would cover that, though.
  • Call your doctor.
Invest in a heating pad- best $20 I've spent.

  • I've heard that back labour feels way different too so who knows. Safest bet is to go get checked out to make sure you're not contracting. If you're not and it it just back pain then head to a chiro tomorrow.

This, especially if the back pain came on suddenly.
I thought I had a UTI last week, but it was contractions and this second pregnancy (I thought I knew what labor felt like).

  • My OB warned me that labor can manifest in the form of severe back pain. If I were you, I would call your doctor and ask them what you should do. Just to be on the safe side.

dude yesterday i had the worst pain of my life in my back, it started as super dull pain right before work, and then while i was at work it intensified to the point where i could hardly walk! it was horrible! i pounded fluids my entire shift, sat when i could even tried to stretch it out-- still hurt like a B. I got home took some tylenol and that didn't work, and sleeping was awful! but today i woke up and everything was fine my back didn't hurt anymore. it was odd i have an OB apt on wednesday so i'm def going to bring that up when i go.

  • My back has been killing me too, but it's more of an achy pain all over, like I desperately need a massage (SO has been working late so I feel bad asking :-<) I've taken hot shower which don't seem to work, but yesterday I made some heating pad things out of tube socks. I had some that didn't have matches so I filled them with dry rice and sewed the top shut. It was so simple. I put them in the microwave for 4 minutes and they stayed hot for a while. Hope that helps!
  • Ive been having back pain as well. Mainly upper back. Didnt want to take meds. Massaging helps temporary and stretching. It came out of nowhere. (Currently at the doctor)
  • I've found that sitting in the shower and letting the hot water run down my back helps a lot. I assume a heating pad would help too (we dont have one and I keep forgetting to get one until it's too late). Also getting a massage from my husband helps. When he focuses on the areas that are really painful it works. My upper back is sore from laying on my sides/shoulders and my lower back is sore from laying on my sides and the baby dropping more.
  • I'm currently camped out on our couch with a heating pad propped up behind me, my back has been a pain lately. I agree with PP, hot showers help and my upper and lower back is sore for the same reasons!
  • i agree with all things said above... but I would also be putting a call to your OB... I have had back labor and it feels like someone is taking a hmmer to your back... better safe than sorry

  • I would definitely get checked as everyone else has said, better to be safe then sorry :) I need/want to crack my back sooo damn bad cant do the twisty back thing. Think i should go see a chiro too!

Let us know how your go!
  • If you're unsure call your doctor!! I had back labor with one of my pregnancies and didn't even know I was in labor. I called and they told me to go in I was almost 6 cms dilated, don't risk your unborn child's health. If water, a bath, relaxing, and tylenol won't help you need to see a professional. It could just be an adjustment from a chriopractor but call you OBGYN first!
  • I have a posterior baby which means back labor is my life unless I get him to turn. Same with my first. Not fun. I need to Google some ways to turn baby. Call your doc for sure.
