Traveling for baby shower!

FTM 26+4 we are having my baby shower this Saturday, I'll be 27 weeks then. We are traveling from VA to KY and have to drive 9 1/2 hours and I am stressing out. I'm dreading being in the car fo so long. I feel like I am going to have to stop every 30 minutes to pee and I keep reading about the risk of developing a blood clot! I feel like I'm over thinking it, but does anyone have any advice on long car rides?
Also, I've registered at babies r us and I've been checking to see what all has been bought and so far only 6 items out of 168 have been purchased! I feel like people are going out and getting things at other stores and just not using our registry which is very frustrating. Anyone else experienced this? Thanks!

Re: Traveling for baby shower!

  • First as long as your doctor says it's alright to travel then it is. I left the country at 36 weeks and stayed until I was 38, my doctor was fine with it. I did have to get out every 1.5-2 hours to walk for 10 minutes which is when I would go to the bathroom. Second, a gift is a gift. You should be thankful for whatever you get. But if it makes you feel better most people don't buy the gifts until the day before or the day of the shower.

Get some compression socks for traveling. Take breaks and keep hydrated.

People typically shop for showers the day before/day of. However, your registry is a shopping list for you and it's not a requirement that people shop from it. Some people do and some don't. They are giving you a gift.
  • I second the compression socks. Even when I'm not pregnant, they're a great idea when traveling.
  • I have a 6 hr car trip coming up at 32 weeks. I'm planning several breaks, leg exercises while in car (I'm not driving), huge bottles of water (which will force me to stop to pee even when I don't feel like stopping) and compression socks.
  • No need to freak out. Lots of women drive while pregnant. I've made 2 road trips and have another this weekend. Try to not go any longer than 3 hours without stopping and flex your muscles between stops. You'll have to pee so much that 3 hours is probably beyond possible anyway. Enjoy your shower! :)
