Gas from vitamin D?!

Using enfamil vitamin d drops and baby has had awful stomach/gas issues. We skipped them last night and today she is fine. Anyone else had these issues? Wondering if its just the brand?

Re: Gas from vitamin D?!

  • We had this issue. I dced them and I think it's been a lot better. My ped nurse made me feel bad about it though. I may try them one more time since I've reduced dairy but I really saw a difference in him with the drops. One if my friends said her ped did not say anything about using drops with her bf baby so I am not super concerned

  • Your location makes a difference. I'm in Canada, and being Northern means we just don't get enough sunlight. It's recommended for all adults here to take vit D supplements, so for BF babies the Drs and public health really stress the importance. But if you have good vit D levels, and the baby gets sunlight, it might not be important. You could also try different brands-in case the reaction is to an additive in it.

  • This exact thing happened to me so I stopped offering them. I was going to ask the doctor tomorrow how much vitamin d I would need to take to ensure my breastmilk is vitamin d rich enough.
  • We use BabyD drops and we have had no issues.

  • We have had this issue with 3 different brands of Vit D so at this point we are not doing them since her tummy can't handle it. That being said, the moms in the August board said you can by Vit D drops where you only give them one drop and they worked really well for them. Walgreens has those. They didn't work for us, but lo has horrible reflux, so your baby might do really well on the drops
  • My baby has bad gas but I haven't noticed their linked to vitamin D drops. We use a brand that is just a single drop without all the extra flavoring and such.
  • We use these and haven't had any issues with them (and I believe it's a smaller dose than the Enfamil formula): https://www.walgreens.com/store/c/upspring-wellbaby-d-infant-vitamin-d-drops/ID=prod6281784-product
  • You have to take 6400 mg of vit D yourself or be exposed to sunlight with no sunscreen twice a day for 15 min each time. I have zero energy to go outside so I've been giving him the supplement, but the one I have is coconut oil based and he actually loves it! And it's only 3 drops :) the brand I use is Zarbee's naturals, I got it at cvs
  • I talked to the pediatrician today and be recommend I trial Carlson brand from Walgreens which is a 1 drop dose.
