Babies: 0 - 3 Months

exersaucer/walker

My three month old is extremely active so i'm trying to figure out some toys/activity centers that might attract his interest.  He'll lay on his activity mat and we can play with him on the mat for about 15 minutes but then he's done.  He could roll all the way over just prior to turning 2 months old.  When we hold him, unless he's tired, he wants to climb and does not want to be held.  He's also very curious and wants to look around at everything which is part of the reason why he doesn't want to be held. I figured putting him in an exersaucer he could turn all the way around to look at anything and everything.

I was considering getting him an exersaucer activity center, but i'm not sure what age is appropriate for an exersaucer.  When did you get your LO's an excersaucer or walker?

  • 3 months is way too young for something like that. Even if your baby is active and has good head control, those are meant for older babies with stronger cores. Young babies develop better when they are on the floor or on their tummies.

Regardless of how "advanced" your baby is physically, I wouldn't rush things that his little body isn't ready for.

  • We put our Jumperoo together this past weekend because it was rainy and we were bored.  LO is 15 weeks, so we know she's not fully ready for it yet.  But she loves to be upright, and will take her weight on her legs when we hold her in a standing position, so we did stick her in there for about 5 minutes WHILE STANDING RIGHT NEXT TO HER twice this weekend.  She did seem super interested in it, but it's clear that she's not physically ready for it quite yet.  Also, we typically hold her upright after a feed because of her reflux so she won't barf...and she barfed ALL OVER that thing.  So even though it's upright, that leads me to believe that her core was unable to support her enough for her to be in it right now.  If she was well supported, she likely wouldn't have been spitting up so much.

I am hoping she's ready for it soon...I noticed that the packaging had a weight limit of 25lbs, and LO was 14.5lbs at her 2 month appointment...I'm worried that she'll be too heavy for it by the time she's ready to use it!  I tried to stick her in the Bumbo seat for the first time last weekend, and her little thighs were too fat to fit through the holes.  So that's already one thing that we'll never be able to use.  Sigh.
