Ache and Pains

Hi everyone! I found out the happy news one week ago... And after flying high for a few days I have now settled on panic mode and can't get by head out of it. I have my first midwife appointment next week and I really can't wait to have my mind put at ease. I currently have no symptoms apart from being really tired and have some dull period pain like aches in my sides and lower belly. Is anyone else like this? My midwife thanks I'm 9 weeks already, but I'm also panicking as the clear blue test came up as two to three weeks which according to the instructions means 5 weeks. Did anyone else have this too?

I know i sound crazy, im such a laid back person but I feel so happy and in love I can't help but worry that somethkng may go wrong!!

Eee, thank you ladies... Your listening means the world

Re: Ache and Pains

  • There's no way your midwife could know how far along you are without doing a dating ultrasound, and the pain you're feeling is totally normal. Try not to worry!

  • Physicians offices base your due date on the first day of your last period, they add 40 weeks to it. Maybe that's what your midwife is doing. I wouldn't go by the clear blue test on how far along you are. I got my due date by US and it was completely accurate to when I ovulated, baby was growing just fine and had a heartbeat :) Don't think about anything going wrong because it's not something you can control and your anxiety is worse for baby (easier said than done, I know). Best wishes!
  • Your aches and pains are totally normal. Easier said than done, but try not to worry too much!

  • Ugh, I've got cramps, too. Everything from my ribs to my back to my groin ache, with flare-ups when I move or twist. I haven't made it to a midwife yet but everything I've been Googling makes me think it's nothing to be too concerned about it, as previous posters have mentioned; PMS-like aches and pains seem to be quite common, for one reason or another. One thing that could be occurring is your uterus is stretching to make room for your LO as s/he grows.

A trick I've found to minimize the cramping is to lay on my back, propped up gently at about a 45-degree angle with comfy pillows, and prop my knees up with more pillows to form a triangle with my legs. This has really calmed things down "down there" for me.

Let us know what you find out at your appointment!

  • Thanks ladies, i wrote this yesterday in the midst of a full scale panic attack. I've calmed down a lot since. Your advice is exactly what I needed to hear. I have no friends going through this, so to speak to others mammys to be is a relief. Only 5 days now until I get to see the midwife
  • @sunshinejar Just here to say that my experiences are consistent with yours. It's hard to not overanalyze every single little thing and worry that it's something horrible! I remember waking up in the middle of the night when pregnant with my first, convinced I was losing the baby because of my "cramps." Turns out....I was starving. I'm not trying to minimize potentially harmful symptoms, only to shed light on the fact that many of us are hypervigilant about these things and it's hard to remember to take a breath and trust the process. Hope your appointment offers further reassurance!
