Babies on the Brain

Help!

Okay here's what I've been experiencing: I have a 9 month old daughter. I got Mirena when she was a little over 2 months old. I got a faint positive before I got it in but they said I was not pregnant when they did the test before they put it in. So that was fine and I had one period and one light period then none for the last 5 months or so. So I haven't thought much about it. But then the other day I was standing in my kitchen and I felt this weird movement in my lower stomach. It made me go WHOA! But, I just chalked it up to gas and didn't think too much else about it. But a little while later I had that unmistakable feeling like hiccups in my stomach. I mean I have only ever felt that rhythmic little heartbeat feeling when I was pregnant. So I quickly thought back on all the symptoms I have had over the last few months and attributed to the IUD (nausea, stomach cramps, sore breasts, headaches, and recently severe back pain out of no where). So I got a little worried and took a test. And I got a faint positive. But so faint I had to have other people tell me they saw it before I believed I saw it... Then today another one that looks more like an evap. I went to the doctor to have a blood test and they found out I had a uti as well. I have only had two uti my whole life and both of those were terrible! Nothing like this where I had no idea I had one at all... So basically now I'm just confused. I have felt this movement every day since it started last week and getting multiple faint positives has me freaking out. I know if I am pregnant I would have to be pretty far along like 3-5 months... So wouldn't a test be a lot positive? Or is there a point where you no longer get positives? Has anyone gone through something like this? I feel like I'm going crazy here...

...what? A positive test is a positive test. If you went to the doctor for bloodwork though, and it didn't come back confirming a pregnancy than I'm sorry, it doesn't sound like you're pregnant at this time. Otherwise, you should get a second opinion.

  • RachelT1234: I agree.

Also, I am confused. You said you got a faint positive before Mirena when your daughter was 2 months old. Now she is 9 months old. If you were pregnant then, you would be 7 months along and definitely noticeable. Also, if you got blood work, they would have been able to tell if you were pregnant or not.
  • For one thing this might be better asked on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd trimester boards, most women in this group haven't even started trying for a baby yet.
Also, it's against the tou to ask us if you're pregnant, even in a roundabout way.
Lastly, has your bloodwork come back yet? If your bloodwork came back indicating you aren't pregnant then you aren't pregnant.
  • Sorry I missed that rule. No I'm waiting on the blood work I was just looking for some reassurance. If should be back today hopefully. The faint before I got it in was a blue dye so when they said I was not pregnant at the doctor I just figured it mustve been an evap. The ones I took recently were pink dye. But I guess I will just wait and see what I find out.
  • I can't comment on your particular situation but blue dye tests are infamous for false positives. Try a pink dye test (like First Response) or wait for your blood results.

  • Just passing through and I will say as a mom of a six month old that I sometimes get those feelings like kicks or hiccups, too. Doesn't hurt to get confirmation through blood tests, but the pregnancy symptom list matches a lot of non-pregnancy symptom lists, so I would not freak out over it.
  • Phantom kicks etc. they are real. You are not pregnant.
