So I'm 18 weeks and I've been trying to convert to side sleeping since I started to get a bump. It's so hard! My hip and shoulder get sore and I wake up in pain. It's the same kind of pain you get from a big bruise. Has this happened to anyone else or do you know of any ways to alleviate the pain? I've tried different pillows, pregnancy pillows, and even bought a softer bed.
Re: Having trouble side sleeping
I just had a regular body pillow when I was pregnant. side sleeping was easier when I could use that to prop up my belly as it got bigger, and put it between my knees. I actually still sleep with it because it really helped my back (I used to be a stomach sleeper and that caused me to have some low back issues). I did have the "arm falling asleep" issue while pregnant (though not anymore for some reason), so I switched sides throughout the night.
It's fine to sleep on your back right now. You would wake up in pain from sleeping on your back well before the baby would be affected by it. And it's usually not dangerous until third tri. You can be on your back for small amounts of time throughout pregnancy. just flip over when it gets uncomfortable.
