insomnia?? hip pain?

here I sit, at 3am, in a warm bath trying to get sleepy.
I have not been asleep before 2 am for the past week.
anyone else fighting a bit of insomnia?!

also I wake up in the middle of my sleep to throbbing hips, I sleep with a pillow between my legs, but I'm wonder if if that makes it worse?

Re: insomnia?? hip pain?

  • My first issue was heart burn.

Now I am dealing with babies kicking to not be the "bottom" one and making me turn over. (Twin Left vs Twin Right)

I would suggest the bath, but you might also find baby likes the weightlessness and wakes up.

I have been reading to help, though tonight the message board is more interesting than sleep.

I personally like having my body pillow between my knees to help with back pain. Your pillow might be too thick. You can try folding a towel in a pillow case to be thinner.

  • Awakened to burping up partially digested food, and incredible thirst. Damn you junk food dinner choices. Now I can't fall back asleep. My arm, shoulder and hip are sore from sleeping on them. It's 2:50. Please come back sleep...
  • Last pregnancy, my mom gave me an exercise ball to gently bounce on (for low back pain) and it helped my hips too. I keep meaning to get it out and blow it up, because my right hip has been bothering me quite a bit this pregnancy. Might be something you could try too.

  • No suggestions but I hear you on the hip pain. I'm just not used to sleeping on my sides like this!
  • I spoke with my chiropracter about my
hip pain as I was also sleeping with a pillow between my legs as most people recommend. Once I stopped using it I stopped having as much hip pain. Chiropracter said that just because it works for some people doesn't mean it will work for all, maybe try sleeping without it to see how you feel.

Insomnia started last week for me. Hip pain hasn't been that bad for me with baby number two. Seeing a chiropractor and acupuncturist helps with lower back and hip pain during pregnancy. I have a snuggle pregnancy pillow that I sleep with. It's basically a body length pillow in the shape of a "C". This also helps.

I would highly suggest seeing a chiropractor if you can. Most will tell you to see them the same week you have your OB or midwives appointment.
  • The hip pain has been awful!!! I use a pillow between my legs but it doesn't help :(

Hopefully there are some other suggestions out there!

  • Hip pain for sure and lower back pain. I bought a snoogle. It seems to have helped me but it is pricey.
  • A snoogle helped me a lot, as much as I hate to admit it. I have a love/hate relationship with my snoogle. Getting in and out of bed with the damn thing is like an Olympic event. But, I do sleep better and my hips and back feel better with it. I still wake up every night for an hour around 3:30-4am though. It sucks.
  • Oh, and I only paid $45 on Amazon.
  • Definitely the insomnia. I wake up at 5am after getting to sleep at 12 am and can't get back to sleep. I have a toddler and it is really starting to make me ill. I definitely feel for you :(
  • No suggestions.....just fellow sufferer!!

Will maybe invest in an exercise ball though!!!

I have been sleeping with a body pillow, which helps me get comfortable enough to sleep, but still sore all the time.
  • I woke up tonight to myself pouring a bottle of water on the floor.... Lol

Then a bit later had to get up to go to the bathroom. And now I'm wide awake at 4 am. Blah.
  • i have had terrible hip pain, and now back pain, this whole pregnancy. sleeping with the pillow between my legs doesn't make a difference. same amount of pain with or without it. i will definitely be calling a chiropractor monday morning though, can't believe i didn't think of that myself!

  • Hip pain here too! We just bought a nice mattress topper. I put a pillow under my hip and it was much better, which made me think it was the mattress. We shall see tonight when we use the topper!

My typical answer to this would be wine so I'm at a loss otherwise.
  • When I sleep on my right side, the hip pain is worse, but it has just started up on the left side now. =/  I use the Boppy pregnancy pillow and it does work pretty well. Sometimes, during sleep I'll adjust and the pillow gets pushed around so I wake up kind of stiff and sore and have to re-position.  The last few nights, I've been sleeping almost the entire night through, but I usually wake around 2-4 a.m. for a bathroom break and sometimes can not fall back asleep to save my life!
  • Go to a chiropractor. I've had to for both pregnancies because the relaxin and growing throw my pelvis out of alignment and I wake up with aching or throbbing in my hips, legs, and lower back. Chiro works quickly during pregnancy because of the relaxin too.
  • For me the hip pain is basically on my left side. It's a dull achey pain that moves down the outer part of my leg. Went to my chiropractor and found out I have bursitis in that hip. After he told me, it makes total sense. He said to ice foe 10-15 min before bed. Only use a pillow to prop my right leg up at a bent angle and let my left leg be straight. Both of those things really do help the pain. I am a Pilates instructor, so I am always stretching and such. I was using a foam roller and he said no way on that hip, it makes it worse. Also, no heat was to be used.
  • Bad hip pain here as well. The only thing that has immediately helped has been that my husband rubs my hips every couple days. I lay on my side on the bed and he'll work on each side. He's even better at it then the massage therapists.
