Breast Feeding with company

Hi all!

During the first few weeks my husband and I are expecting family and friends to be stopping by.  Both to meet the baby and to help us out - which we are welcoming!  We are so excited to share our little babe with our loved ones!  However - I am a FTM and have no idea how I am going to be with breast feeding and am anxious about it.  Do I excuse myself for a whole half an hour (maybe more?) to feed the baby?  Many friends of mine that are Mom's feel so comfortable and just pop out their boob - but I am thinking at the start it is not going to be like this...

- What 's the best thing to wear if company is coming over ?  I have a bunch of nursing bras - but I'm thinking like a nursing tank and then maybe an open sweater over top?  It's getting cold here already...!

Thoughts?

    I use a nursing bra and a nursing top, so my belly isn't exposed. You can use the babys blanket to cover up or a scarf since it's getting cold where you are. The are those expensive infinity nursing scarfs you can buy or just use a large soft scarf.
    After birth, you will lose a sense of modesty, so you might feel ok without covering up.

    I wore a nursing bra, nursing tank, and a cardigan or something like that when I had DD. In the really early weeks, you still might be more comfortable excusing yourself if the latch is tough to maintain, but once that is established, it's pretty smooth to grab a nursing cover (if that's your style) and find a comfy spot to nurse while visiting. 

    I would usually use nursing as a great excuse for a quick break when I was at DH's house for family gatherings. When I was at my own home or with our close friends, I'd usually just use my nursing cover and hang out with them. I thought my parents would be totally cool with me not using a nursing cover, and honestly, it caught me off-guard, but my dad wasn't comfortable with it. I was fine with using a cover after that, which I felt made everyone more at ease.

    The two shirt method is great for nursing in public or around others. Wear a regular shirt over a nursing tank. Regular shirt lifts up, nursing tank folds down and minimal boob exposed.

    Two weeks post partum I didn't mind taking the break away from company and stepping away to the nursery personally.

    Ditto above, nursing was my favorite excuse to have the baby to myself at the beginning. Pp hormones also dictated I have at least one huge cry a day so I'd knock them out together lol also, I was surprisingly more comfortable/didn't care who saw what than I thought I would be. My babe would not tolerate a nursing cover to I just used tank, layers, and scarves to cover as much as possible....

    Breast feeding can be tough and confusing, I know that with both of mine there was no way I could use a cover at first.  I needed two hands to and a clear line of sight to baby's mouth and my nipple in order to get it right.  I ended up excusing myself if I wasn't comfortable BF in front of someone only because it wasn't realistic to be very discrete while we were still learning.  

    I was surprised that I felt more comfortable in front of people than I thought I would, I still don't out in public but around family it was fine.
