Mamas that have had c sections

I had an emergency c section with DS. Now that I'm pregnant again 18 months later, things feel a lot different around the insision line. A little achy.. And it is still sore from time to time (even before I was pregnant). I'm not really worried right now because Im not having any awful pain... But just wondering if any of you other CS mamas feel any different being pregnant after having one. Extra points if you've had two sections already!

Re: Mamas that have had c sections

  • Previous CS mama here! I haven't noticed anything BUT I still have some numb pockets at the base of my abdomen. I'm interested to see if there are any different sensations this time around.

  • I had an emergency C too, my entire incision line is still numb, and itchy at times. I haven't had any symptoms other then that yet tho, hoping they hold off for a long, long time!

  • I had a scheduled c-section (DD was breach) and I'm still fairly numb in the area as well. I've noticed maybe once or twice a couple weird tugging sensations near my scar. I'll be interested to see what this scar looks like at 9 months pregnant...

  • Oh my God, I get the heebie-jeebies even thinking about my section scar. And, if my husband touches it, it's over. It's soooooooo extra sensitive. I don't even want to think about how it is going to feel 9 months from now. It still is itchy for me too.

  • I still have numb pockets in my lower abdomen around/on the scar, but it doesn't feel too strange yet. NOT looking forward to what it's going to look like by June!

  • My incision line has never really felt right. I haven't noticed it in a while though.

Wonder if it will flare up when we get bigger though...

  • My section scar doesn't bother me at all anymore but it's 4 and 1/2 years old. When it was newer it gave me the creeps and felt weird at times. I am absolutely dreading another section. I did not do well physically or emotionally with my first section. I really hope to do a VBAC. Anyone else nervous for another C or wanting to do VBAC?
  • @WSU2015 I wish I could do a VBAC so badly. Unfortunately, with my first, I was told by my OB when she did her first check that my skeletal system was not made for pushing out babies and I would likely need a C Section. I was stubborn and tried and tried and tried. But we had to go emergency C Section and the rest of my story was horrible.

This time, I will go RCS because I want to hold my healthy baby as soon as they are born. I didn't get that with my first.

  • @NicknShan The female pelvis comes in several different shapes and some shapes just aren't able to pass a baby. I'm sorry that VBAC isn't an option for you. You sound like your at peace with it though. Maybe this experience will be better for you since your going into it knowing it will be a section.

My first section was a scheduled one. I knew the day and time I would be going in a week or so in advance. I never went into labor with my first and I was 5 days overdue the day of my section.

The primary reason I had the option for section was that I had a big baby. My son was 9 lb 11oz when he was born! I also might have a pelvis shape that isn't great for vaginal birth. My son never "dropped" into my pelvis and my OB thought that was because he couldn't fit.

Maybe this time I'll have a 7 or 8 pounder and I'll go into spontaneous labor.... But who knows right?
  • @WSU2015 Same exact thing here. My doctor had already told me he didn't think my pelvis would allow me to deliver vaginally, and then the ultrasound tech was convinced my baby was over 11 pounds (turned out to be 11!). I ended up with extremely high blood pressure so we scheduled a CS at 38 weeks. I can't imagine how big he would have been at 40 weeks!

I did have some pressure around my scar, but my new dr thinks I probably have excess scar tissue due to really painful ovulation most months- the only good thing about another CS is that she can clean up the scar tissue a little.
  • @WSU2015 @RMR7779 similar story with me. I was scheduled to be induced 6 days after my due date. With the cervidal and petocin baby still never dropped and OB also said I may just never be able to get baby out due to his size (9 lbs and 2 oz) and my pelvis. I choose to go the CS route instead of waiting it out. Everyone tells their horror stories of being in labor for 24 hours and coming down to the last second having to have an emergency CS. I had already been in the hospital for 21 hours and couldn't imagine being in labor and delivery for another 24.

My scar is still a little itchy and I do feel a sharp pain every once and a while but I've felt that before I found out I was pregnant again. I too have been wondering what will happen down the road!! This LO will be born less that 12 months from DS and VBAC is so far out of my mind after researching the pros and cons of it.
  • @RMR7779 11 pounds!!!!!!!!!!! Wow! So it sounds like your planning on another CS then. Did you have gestational diabetes? Or do you just grow big babies?
  • @WSU2015 Yeah I'm definitely too scared for a VBAC! Are you going to try for one? Big babies do run in my family- I had the first 11 pounder though! No diabetes, and my first thought was maybe my dates were wrong, but I got a negative test a few days before finding out we were pregnant that time so it couldn't be. Hoping to experience a normal sized baby this time :)
  • Kudos to you vbac mamas! I was induced at 41 weeks and the baby quickly went into distress, resulting in an emergency C, scariest 30 minutes if my life. Followed by a nightmare recovery and I didn't see my LO for hrs. Definitely can't go through that again, RCS for me for sure!

  • I want a VBAC so very badly. My OB wanted me to schedule a CS with DS due to his size but I asked her if I could try vaginal as long as it was safe for baby and she said yes, but I had to be induced at 39 and 1 (I didn't like the idea of being induced but it was better than a section in my mind). I have a very small body frame and could not handle it. I pushed and pushed but even his head was too big for me. I'm glad I tried but still so jealous of those moms who have experienced delivering a child naturally. I really struggled with having a c section. DS was 8lb 12oz and 23" long so I know my gestational diabetes didn't cause his size (he was a little underweight for his length and DH is super tall too).
    We've got this RCS mamas!!!

  • @RMR7779 I'm really hoping for a VBAC but I'll probably only go for it if I go into spontaneous labor. I don't want to be induced just to end up with an emergency C. It really just depends on how the pregnancy goes overall too.
  • I didn't have anything weird after first section. This time, after the second, it does has numb spots still.
  • I have had 3 csections and currently pregnant with #4 I do always feel the scar line when I'm pregnant. :)
  • Scheduled c section and i don't notice anything yet

  • @NicknShan same thing! Tried to be induced the first time even though I was warned. Second and now third scheduled CS.

My incision spot is still a little numb, but not bothersome. Hoping it stays that way!
