Ugh so ob talked me into a flu shot and now I have a horrible cough, scratchy throat and headache. I have managed to stay healthy the entire pregnancy and now this
I am terrified of the flu shot:( a friend got the shot last year with her pregnancy and then got the flu the next day, it wasn't as bad as the strain going around but it was miserable being that sick while being pregnant. Is that a normal side effect?
The doc said you can't t the flu from the flu shots but the paperwork they gave me AFTER said it could cause flu like symptoms such as fever, cough, congestion, headache etc ... Ugh I'm sooo miserable and have so much to get done
I'm not a fan of needles, and didn't want the shot, but was convinced. I didn't react as I thought I would, and I feel so bad for you! I hope you feel better.

Good to know, I am sure my doctor will go over all of that with me tomorrow at my appointment. Positive vibes sent your way for a speedy recovery!
My doc was trying to get me to get it the day I went in for my tDap, I definitely wasn't keen on 2 in one day and I've never done the flu shot so I said I need time to think. He asked why and I laid out everything including the mentions above and I've never had the flu anyway. Meanwhile, NC just had its first death from the flu last week so now I'm nervous. Are these side effects that subside quickly if you get them and relatively harmless to the baby?
I'm sorry you don't feel well, but on the bright side, flu-like symptoms now are better than the actual, contagious flu when you have a newborn to care for (and spread it to). Feel better soon!
The flu shot cannot (CANNOT) give you the flu as it is dead virus. It does take two weeks (14 days) to build up the antibodies, so if you are exposed to the flu between the time you get the shot and 14 days, you absolutely can still come down with the flu, but it has nothing to do with the shot. You can also be exposed to the flu a few days before the shot and get sick because of the incubation period of the virus after exposure.
I had my flu shot early September and am so glad I did because my daughter got the flu last week. The flu mist is only available at our pediatrician starting tomorrow and unfortunately it is too late for her now, but thankfully my shot protected me and I didn't get it. She is miserable and on day 5 of fever.
The shot can give you flu like symptoms such as aches, chills and low grade fever and that means your body is having a good immune response (better immune response, better antibody level). These antibodies pass through the placenta to protect baby too after birth. This is the case with tDap too. You can get these shots after birth, but only a very very small amount of antibodies from the shots are passed through breastmilk compared to the much higher levels that pass through the placenta.
I was really nervous about getting the flu shot because i was afraid that I would get flu like symptoms and feel bad the next few days, but surprisingly didn't carch any. I guess the reaction depends on the person. Hope you feel better soon!
All I got from the shot was a sore arm. Lasted a couple of days. Same with TdaP. I actually really wanted the shot before my little girl came so she would be protected. DS and DH got it as well. Just a little soreness. As @twogirlsandagreen said you could have been exposed before you got the shot. I've given hundreds of flu shots and had very few people come back to me with problems. Hope you feel better soon!
I stopped getting the flu shot. I was active duty Navy and its mandatory while you're in, but every time I got the shot, it would distract my immune system enough for me to catch the actual flu. Totally a coincidence but I've never caught the flu any other time.
I'm sorry you feel bad!!! The CDC website helped me make my descion about if the flu shot was for me or not. I'm due this Friday, and don't want to risk getting these side effects. Feel better!
