Babies on the Brain

Baby Fever Making Me Crazy!

So my husband I have our tentative TTC date somewhere between May-August 2016. I started a new job this August that has a one year probationary period so hence the wait. My baby fever is making me nuts. It seems like everyone I know is pregnant. I do love my new job though and it is a federal job so I will have job protection when I do become pregnant. We have types of leave that must be approved and pregnancy falls under one of those mandatory categories. I guess we don't technically have to wait the year, but in order to have the additional FMLA protection I have to be there a year and I am afraid it would seem unprofessional to start a new job and boom get pregnant. I do seem to work in a family friendly department though, one co-worker just had twins, another a baby girl, and another just announced this week that him and his wife are expecting their first child and everyone is excited for them. It just hard to wait it out. Anyone else in the same boat? Also, is anyone doing anything health wise (specifically diet, mine is terrible and could use a major clean up) to help prepare? I am hoping to start posting here more and getting to know everyone!

    Welcome!

We are waiting until September 2016 because I just started a new job as the Executive Director of my organization in July. My work offers paid maternity leave and I don't have to wait (been there for 3 1/2 years), but we think it's best I have time to adjust to the role and establish myself. If we were to get pregnant next fall, I would give birth at the 2 year mark of my position. It's hard to wait and I have 5+ friends having babies right now, but we know it's the right thing to do.

This is a great board for waiting and trying to stay sane! So stick around and feel free to vent, ask questions or just lurk!

  • Welcome. At my previous job I could swear that pregnancy was some kind of epidemic. There where always at least one woman pregnant. Luckily it's not like that where I work now. I did a low carb diet for a bit to loose a bit of weight (I was just a little overweight) and to stop my body from wanting sugar all the time. I could get really dizzy if I didn't eat on time and often had to snack between meals. The third day in that diet I got so sick since my body wanted the sugar and since the fourth day it got over it and hardly any sugar cravings since. I don't know what part of your diet needs to improve but I also found it helpfull to have week menu's so I didn't have to think about what to cook and just followed the menu's. For me that was easier then thinking for myself what to buy and cook, because now I cook everything from scratch.

  • I can totally relate!  I started a new job at the end of July and I want to qualify for FMLA, so we're waiting until November to start TTC.  Originally we had a more conservative start date of the new year, but with friends starting to TTC, who are already pregnant, and who are having babies ... I couldn't wait any more than I have to!  Starting in November gives me about a month (IF I get KU right away, which I know is unlikely) flexibility in case LO comes early.  That's good enough for me!!  I do feel a little bit guilty getting KU after only being there a few months, but who knows how long it'll take, and by the time I have the baby it'll have been over a year since I started.

  • Hey we are TTC buddies! My husband and I just moved up our date to that exact timeframe! This month has been really difficult for me. A few of my friends are pregnant and both of my little girls are growing up and leaving all traces of baby behind. Everything in me is craving a new baby! Right now my husband and I are in the process of looking for a new house with more bedrooms, I'm losing weight, getting my depression in check, and taking prenatals. I guess that's as much preparation as we are doing :P
