Clomid this cycle or not? Out of town...

I have my rx for Clomid. I have never taken it before but my day 21 progesterone was only 1.5.  However, I am going to be out of town without DH on CD 13-19 (will be able to have BD on CD 13 and 19). My past cycles, O has been on day 18, 17, 17, 13, 15 (from oldest cycle to most recent cycle). I don't want to take Clomid if I am going to definitely miss my window as you cannot take it long term. However, we are SO ready and I'd love to take Clomid and have a chance to get pregnant if it is possible.  I have heard Clomid can make you ovulate earlier than you usually do.

Any insights? Thank you!

  • You should be monitored while on clomid. Thus includes ultrasounds and bloodwork. Please don't take Clomid from an OB. It's a very serious fertility drug with wicked side effects (and potentially dangerous side effects) that can be seen witb proper monitoring

  • @bsckgb7 what else should I have done? I have several progesterone levels schedule and a HSG. What type of u/s should I have done? The OB said there is no need to confirm ovulation via ultrasound since we both agree that I definitely ovulate. She did say we could do one if I wanted to, but said she didn't think it was necessary since I ovulate and my insurance won't cover it.

I cannot get in to see a RE for several months unfortunately.

Clomid can cause over-stimulation and you can risk multiple follicles with the potential for high-order multiples. You need an ultrasound to check follicle count (so you can make an informed decision to maybe forgo if you have too many follicles. Also, clomid can thin your uterine lining permantently. Your lining must be think enough for implantation and it can cause permanent damage. Clomid can also dry-up your cerival mucus making it harder for the swimmers.

Also, has your husband had and SA? Clomid has a limetime max of 6 uses. OBs typically tell you its safe and ultrasounds aren't needed. My OB tried to RX it too. i said I wouldn't take it without monitoring, she said no.

OBs are trained to KEEP you pregnant. REs are traimedto GET you pregnant
