Anyone not impressed by dr Browns?

my 9 week old has reflux pretty bad! I am not impressed with dr Browns bottles- he is still gassy and spitting up a lot. Anyone have any advice for a bottle that worked for them? Thank you!!!

Re: Anyone not impressed by dr Browns?

  • They seem like nothing but a pain in the ass with all of the parts. Granted, LO EBF but when I go back to work, he'll be getting pumped milk in those bottles. He seems to take to the nipple on them so I'll deal with the inconvenience of them for now.

  • My baby is still swallowing air with dr browns bottels but it's better than her tommee tippee's
  • When I was supplementing for my LO we tried every bottle we could because he was swallowing so much air/spitting up/spitting out and just miserable. The Avent bottles with the size 0 nipple have been the best!! He controls the flow and doesn't get much air. Every baby is different but I love these bottles
  • I loved the Avent bottles and we also have tommee tippee which works really well
  • I hate them! My LO is still gassy and spits up. The damn things leak too- milk will collect in the straw if it falls over before you use it.
    I prefer the Avent bottles.
  • I've been using them since day one and now at 2 months old, they are starting to leak! I have like 50 bucks invested in bottles so I don't want to just toss them. UGH!
  • Avent bottles they work really well baby has never had any gas or reflux issues.
  • The opposite for me, I love the Dr Brown's bottles! They have helped so much with gas and spit up for my little one! I guess it's just baby's personal preference! Haven't had a leaking issue unless I accidentally over fill the bottle, don't tighten it enough or the nipple isn't sealed to the collar.
  • My daughters definitely not impressed with them.....she's a boob gal all the way...
  • I could not get my daughter to really take them. She is EBF but I introduced bottles at 4 weeks to prepare for going back to work. She did fine with the nipple from the medela bottles that come with the pump, but was having gas issues so I figured it would be an easy transition for her since nipple size is very similar, but I was wrong. She would get frustrated with it and try to fit the whole nipple down to the collar in her mouth. We have found the Avent Natural bottle to be awesome. It helps with gas issues and the nipple is wider so she isn't shoving the whole thing down her throat.

We initially tried the avent bottles and my LO swallowed so much air with them!!! She was miserable. We switched to Dr Browns at 2 weeks and have never looked back! They are AWESOME!

Every baby is different though.... so what works for one won't work for others :) it's all about trial and error :)
  • Thanks for the input! Trial and error it is!!!
  • My LO hated every bottle we tried and out of desperation I bought a cheap Playtex Ventaire bottle. He loves it. No more spitting up or reflux from the bottle.
  • My daughter received Avent and Mam bottles as gifts and she didn't like either. I remembered my Medela pump came with some bottles and lo and behold, she guzzles milk down from those things. Good thing Medela items are so easy to find- Just had to pick up a stash from Walmart!

  • My baby hated the dr Browns and avent and joovy boob. Took to tommee tippee right away.
  • I'm lucky because my LO has taken to every nipple and bottle I've given her. But, I do prefer the Dr. Browns because it did cut down on her gas. They are a pain to clean, though!
