Baby rolling over in her sleep

Hi :) my daughter recently learned to roll over back to tummy, since then she has been rolling over in her sleep. Every time she does that, she'd scream really hard and get very upset. I'm also afraid that she might suffocate doing that. Does anyone else's baby do this? Any tips to prevent it or any comment is greatly appreciated!

Re: Baby rolling over in her sleep

  • Mine is doing this as well. At first she would cry to be turned back over. Now she's happy sleeping on her stomach. It makes me so nervous that she sleeps on her stomach so we turn her back over every time we can.

  • My dr said something very refreshing about this at our 4 month check up- basically, if the baby can roll over and is strong enough to pick his head up, the chances of an issue diminish greatly. He said as long as you put him to sleep on his back and he turns himself, you don't need to continuously flip him back. That being said it look me a while to get used to not staring at him and checking his breathing. Also we use a pacifier which helps reduce the risk of SIDS. Good luck!
  • If they can roll themselves to their tummy then they can roll themselves back over and they can turn their heads as well to prevent suffocation.
  • My baby started this recently and it's freaking me out!!! He doesn't like flipping from front to back he would much prefer his tummy but I feel like I'm going to worry all the time. And views on a movement monitor?
  • We had the same thing (with same comforting comments from our Dr as noted in other comments). We're now past this phase, but one tip i read was to practice rolling from tummy to back with your LO before bedtime - apparently having the (muscle) memory fresh in their minds helps them remain calmer when it happens and roll back (eventually)
  • My LO used to sleep through the night until she started rolling. Now she wakes up every time she rolls over! Ugggggg!
  • We have an angel care monitor which has helped alleviate some of the fears with her sleeping on her belly
  • Mine is doing this every night, all night long. He will scream until DH or I come in to roll him back over. I'm so over it. I need help!! (And sleep!!!) Driving me crazy!
  • Mine flips back and forth a lot throughout the night... The snuza monitor helps a ton to ease my mind!
  • My Dr. said the same thing. My LO had been sleeping on his tummy for a while now and has started turning over to his back which he does not like. Since he started to prefer his tummy I would put him down for his naps to see of he was alright at first (on his tummy) Now it's almost like he knows it's time to rest when we put him in on his tummy. Good luck!!
  • On this note, does anyone have advice on how to help the babies learn to roll back from tummy?
  • My baby last night slept at 9p. Woke at 12a and 4a. After that, it was every hour. I put her on her back and wake to find her crying on her tummy. She is good with back to tummy but reverse not so much. Ive been putting toys for her to reach forward and lift up the toys to make her roll over back. When she does go from tummy to back, I praise her. Im hoping this will work. She and I both need sleep.
  • Thanks! My LO got the hang of it a few days later. Now he only does it when he wants to reach a toy or if he's tired of the view. He's stopped practicing during the night!
