Already showing?! This Early?!

I already have this visible bump in front and can't wear any of my pants.  I'm 5'2'', very petite with a tiny torso so I guess it's not so shocking but still, how can I look so pregnant at only 8 1/2 weeks?  Anyone else showing yet?

  • I look pregnant but it's all bloat. Heck there have been times when I ate hard to digest food pre-pregnancy where I looked like this too. It's just harder to control and sucking it in doesn't seem to work. It's crazy out of control by end of day if I don't watch what I eat for lunch.
  • It's not the baby at this point. All bloat.
  • bloooat , it may go away

some days i can wear my pants some days i cannot lol
  • "Blump" aka bloat bump.
  • I look 4 months pregnant ... It's bloat. I blame the carbs on carbs lol
  • Same! Soooo bloated and can barely fit in my pants anymore! I'm only 7 weeks!
  • It's pretty normal for clothes to start feeling tight at this point. Your uterus isn't large enough to start rising above the pelvis until around 12 weeks. Most won't have a true baby bump until 14-20 weeks. It's bloat and maybe constipation right now. Drinking lots of water will help a bit.
  • @lalala2004 I'm dying. That's hilarious.

  • Time to bust out the maternity clothes! I'm 5'2, this is my 4th pregnancy and 3rd child, and I always look full term by 6 months. Here's my "blump." Call it whatever you want, no one is buying my "I ate too many burritos" excuse.

@chottomotto wow! How far along are you? That's definitely more than just bloat.

  • I'm due May 8th by LMP, which puts that picture at 8 weeks. I really don't care what's in there, I'm getting the pregnancy perks. :)

  • You look fab! You have the lovely bump!  I just look like i eat twenty dumplings every day. Not the cute look, unfortunately.
I hate this bloat business!! Nothing is comfy anymore, and I did end up buying some maternity stuff, just to feel comfortable again :-)

  • I looked 4 months pregnant before I got my BFP... sigh.

  • I also look like I'm 4 months along. Somewhere in week 5 my belly just popped. I'm 6w4d now and definitely bought a beband this weekend. What has me even more worried is that I'm up 8-10lbs! I definitely haven't been eating anymore although my water intake has increased. But I also pee 60 times a day so....wtf! My first OB appointment is in 2 hours so obviously we will discuss my fatty status. Anyone else gain a chunk of weight early on?

Everybody is different but from everything I read it looks like you shouldn't gain too much in the first trimester because you shouldn't be eating additional calories. I'm trying to be good about that and keep my eating within normal range. I feel like I read to add 200 calories a day in the second trimester and 300-500 in the third...
  • @aamm04 your calorie intake sounds about right for the average woman. I know for me, because I'm a little heavier, I don't add any calories at all the first trimester, and only add about 200-300 the second and third. Doc said based on monitoring my weight we'd adjust as necessary.

Everything I've ever been told is that the slight calorie intake change happens right away, but I could be wrong! With DS I think I had gained 10 lbs by the end of the first trimester, but it was also the middle of winter and all I could get myself to eat was carbs! I'm still nursing twice a day and quite hungry with this little one, but so far I've actually lost a pound or two. Maybe the little bit of nursing and force feeding myself Naked juices is helping keep me under control so far. I was surprised when I weighed myself this morning so I'm not going to stress about it anymore. Eating a little something in the middle of the night is where I'm getting the extra calories, and it's how I survive!

    ----QBF----
I've never heard/read to add calories immediately. I plan to talk more to my doctor about it next week, but my sister is a nutritionist and she just told me to clean it up and not add calories (I was curious so I just asked her). I'm slightly overweight to begin with and I'd like to keep my total gain to 25 pounds, so I'm being very cautious with it. I really dislike that "eating for two stigma" because it's just not healthy.
  • @aamm04 Good to know! Maybe I'm remembering what the midwife told me at my first appointment (around 10 weeks). Insight from a nutritionist is helpful, I appreciate that. I agree about the "eating for two" thing, I think it comes from a good place of people wanting us to take care of ourselves, but really sends the wrong message when it comes to what we really need to be healthy!

Talk to your doctor! Breastfeeding will definitely make things specific for you, and I'm sure a lot of it has to do with starting weight.

LOL! You look great though! I'm having baby #4 and already have a pot belly! Showing super early but that's the norm for a 4th pregnancy I've been told. I'm waiting to tell my family but that's getting quite difficult as my body wants to tell the world!
  • I'm not really showing yet though I can feel my ab muscles poking out some this week. Nursing and chasing a toddler has kept my weight the same so far. I expect if this one is anything like last time, I'll show around 13 or 14 weeks-- maybe sooner since it's #2?
@chottomotto I'm also 5'2" and looked full term by 6 months last time. I blame my short torso...there's just nowhere for a baby to go but outward. I agree with PP though, you look great!
