If you search the May2016 board, you'll find that many women here have current or past experience with this.
It is fairly common. Sometimes it causes a gush (or several) of blood; sometimes it's simply reabsorbed by the body; occasionally it can cause complications for baby or placenta.
As with anything else, if you're concerned about something, always ask you doctor too. Even on the weekends there is typically an on-call doctor to talk with if you feel like something may be wrong. Usually the "rule" on bleeding is if it's red with cramping, or soaking a pad per hour, then definitely call the doctor.
Eta: I had this with my son. I had a gush of red blood at 13 weeks, and was put on a few days of bed rest. Everything was fine and it didn't cause trouble (except for freaking me out when I saw so much red blood). Hope everything works out well for you!
I had one as well and bled right around 9 weeks. Mine is small and I spoke with the doctor and he assured me that I should not have any problems. I was told that I may have spotting but if I see red blood I need to call. Try not to worry to much and mane ask how big or small yours is.. I was not put on bed rest but some people are.
