Telling friends and family

What's everyone's opinion on waiting to tell friends and family about your pregnancy? My husband and I told a few of our closest friends and family members but I'm just dying to shout it from the rooftop. We are only 7wks but I feel like whatever happens I'll want the support of our friends and family. Is that irresponsible?

Re: Telling friends and family

  • No. Telling your family and friends when you want is your choice. It's not irresponsible to want more support around you, you just have to be prepared to field the questions and inquiries if something unexpected happens that you would rather have kept private. It's up to you and your SO when is right for you to announce your baby.

  • I've started telling people and I'm only 6 weeks. I'm not exactly shouting it but I'm not denying it either. And we swore no Facebook announcements until 12 weeks. But I feel the same way. Should something happen, it's not because I would have done anything wrong and I wouldn't want to hide in a corner alone to cope. I come from a big extended family who all shared their news early. My loss would be their loss and I would want their support. I've kept the friends list more personal and I had to share ASAP at work for hazard reasons (I give a lot of chemo and radioactive meds) so work is slowly leaking through the unit of 150 nurses I work with. This is such an exciting time!!! No need to keep it all to yourself....IMO.
  • I'm not going to make a super public announcement for a while, but I do tell individual people when it comes up or if it's someone I am really close to. The way I see it, I need people's support now when I'm so sick and tired, and I'm sure if something bad does happen then I will want their support.
  • Thanks! I am sure there are lots of topics like this out there already but I'm new to this whole thing and needed a sounding board!
