Cankles..

I am 3 days post partum.
I was not allowed to get out of the hospital bed at all for the first day and a half, and only allowed to get up to go to the bathroom the rest of the time.
Today I finally got to come home and I have had no swelling, until now. It's only in my feet/ankles
I know it can be bad, but I was thinking it could be just because I haven't stood up for more then 2 mins at a time in 3 days and today I walked around a lot!
I have only been home an hour and really don't want to call the doctor.

Do you think it's something I should be concerned with? Or is it just normal post partum stuff..

Re: Cankles..

  • I'm a FTM so I'm not 100% sure but when I went home I also had some swelling of my ankles. It went away after a couple of days.

  • I had way more swelling than when I was pregnant after I left the hospital. Mine lasted a week and a half! :( It's normal. They pump you full of fluids when you are in labor.
  • @crzykay82 makes sense! I had to have a blood transfusion after and lots of other fluids!
  • I had a natural birth and also have the leg/ankle/foot swelling. My doctor said it's all of the fluid left in your body ftom carrying baby. She said after delivery, it goes to the place of least resistance. Very normal and will go away over time.
  • It's normal. I had really bad swelling that lasted about a week. I did drink so detox tea to help flush the water out.
  • I got super swollen cankles too lol. It was the worst around day 3 and lasted until about day 5.
  • I had such bad swelling while I was in the hospital and about 3 days of being home. It felt like I was wearing flipper fins on my feet. Such a weird and uncomfortable feeling. Drink lots of water and keep them elevated when you can.
  • I was pretty swollen before labor, after labor my feet looked like you could pop them with a needle. The only thing that really made a difference were compression socks. Best of luck, remember that the swelling is temporary!
  • I had bad swelling too. I was told that since your blood volume is double when your pregnant right after delivery all that extra fluid moves and the swelling is worst by day 5. However it lasted awhile. Maybe 2 weeks.
  • Mine lasted about a week and a half and was waaay worse after delivery than any swelling I had before. It finally went away when I made sure to elevate my feet as much as possible. There were a couple days it was so bad I had a hard time getting up because I didn't have normal flexibility in my ankles.
