Infertility

NYC Fertility? Sher?

Hi Ladies,

I have my first consult at Sher Fertility in NY in 3 weeks. (My previous 2 IVF cycles were done in Canada... we recently moved).
Now that it's getting closer and closer, I'm starting to wonder about the clinic and doctors even more. The anticipation is killing me a little bit. I waited for an appointment with Dr. Drew Tortoriello as based on some reviews I read, I was eager to work with him.

If anyone is from NYC and has any personal experiences to share with Sher or Dr. Tortoriello specifically you would be helping me immensely in settling (or unsettling I guess) my nerves. Or if you worked with a different clinic and want to share those experiences I'd be super thrilled to hear about them before making the final decision.

Because we've already done two failed rounds, I'm really wanting to put my best foot forward this time around as we are thinking we'll only give 1 more fresh and 1 more frozen cycles a try before moving to adoption. It's been a long 4+ years and I just want to stack the odds in my favour as much as possible.

THANK YOU!
:x

Re: NYC Fertility? Sher?

  • I have been thinking about them if this cycle fails. I have heard great things. I have read a lot of Dr. Sher's articles and am currently ready his book. I have DOR and am a poor responder and they are supposed to do well with working with difficult cases. Good luck, I would love to hear about your experience.
  • Loading the player...
  • Thanks @tennesseelove ... I've heard great things too, hence why I'm headed there... just wanted some personal stories but looks like not many NYC folk here...

I too was a relatively poor responder. Managed to get 4 fertilized only on our first round. At least I had some, I know some ladies end up with none. I'm hoping this time around we are able to be a bit more aggressive, but like you, I don't have a great amount of eggs left either. I'm assuming the two go hand in hand.

What's this book you speak of? I'll have to look it up...

  • If my current cycle had failed SHER Dallas was my choice. I did went to consult with the doc there and then my current RE was my second opinion. I decided to go with her instead simply because I felt I'll be more comfy with a female doc. But SHER's reputation is very good. I do suggest that you should also read the review of the indicidual doctor too. All the best.
  • Thanks @Binnie505 ! How did Beta go for you today? Congrats again!

  • @oxinfree The beta went well I guess. It came back as 175 :) They said its strong indication of twins so I am to increase my folic acid intake. I am scared!
  • @Binnie505 Wahoo! Twins is scary, but maybe also exciting? Always kinda secretly wish for twins... I know increased risks, but many many women have completely healthy full term pregnancies. Do you go back in a couple days to see how they're doubling?

  • I'm not a fan of Sher unless you head to the Connecticut office to be treated by Dr. Wang who recently left. Dr. T's bedside manner is left to be desired - he just doesn't have it in him. I was treated by him once when Dr. Wang was out of town. Really, Dr. Wang is the only one who will give you the care and support you need during this process. Not postive that you will find it with the others. But see for yourself.
  • Hi there! I looked into Sher, but ended up going to Neway Fertility instead. Clean offices and the doctors/staff are unbelievable. I absolutely love Dr Nejat and Dr Luk - they work as a team. I've never gotten this type of care before. They call you with results and answer your calls/emails within the hour. I HIGHLY recommend them.

    Good luck!!!
