Baby smashing legs

hi I've got a 4.5 momth old and she's started lifting her legs and smashing them down over and over while she's asleep sometimes it wakes her sometimes it doesn't but she hits the mattress pretty hard I have no idea why she's doing this any ideas ?

Re: Baby smashing legs

  • Could she be trying to poop or pass gas? Mine does that when she's trying to.

or maybe she's just excited about this new skill lol

  • I agree with the gas. Mine kicks a lot when he has gas and so did DD. Draws the knees up to his chest and then kicks them down hard over and over. Getting the gas out helps (bicycle the legs, push his knees into his chest, push one knee and opposite elbow together, etc.).

  • Mine has done this for awhile now. I think he just likes the noise it makes
  • Yup my first did it and now my second does. They just like the noise it makes.
  • My 4 month has been doing this for a few weeks. She sleeps in a sleeping bag/gro bag so she is like a whale. I was worried she might hurt herself & think we should have got a sturdier cot! I think it is just a new skill as she has just started rolling & trying to catch her toes etc

My 4 mo old does the same!!! The other night he hit his legs so hard (he's in a crib in our room still) that I woke up my hubs and asked him if somebody was at the front door? It sounded like banging!!! He's so strong! I never thought it could be gas?! Interesting!!
  • Pretty certain it's not gas, she's never really been gassy and isn't crying or in pain like the other comments I'm guessing it's a new skill glad I'm not the only one who thought it odd :) thanks everyone :)
