Flu shot

Hi all,

Ive been reading all of your posts and ive got to say you guys reassure me in the worst of times.

I am 14w 4d, just saw my baby on ultrasound at week 14, moving around ALOT and with a strong and healthy HB.

The same day, they gave me a flu shot, I didnt think anything of it until about a day after, I started feeling achy, feverish and a little nauseus, it is 4 days later and im still feeling sickly from it, the weather here is terrible also, so im not sure if it is just pregnancy aches, fly shot side effects, or weather effects on the body :-/ being I was high risk early in this pregnancy doctor said I am low risk now, but I still get nervous, being this is the farthest ive ever been along. I just dont want to do anything to harm my baby girl.

  • You have to trust that your doctor wouldn't do anything to harm your baby. It's common for some people to feel sickly after getting a flu shot and with the weather changing, it's making it worse. Remember your doctor is there for you so call whenever you have concerns.

  • If you read the flu shot thread you'd know that the true influenza virus carries with it very severe illness. Feeling a bit achy and under the weather is common during the change of seasons this time of year, so that is likely what you are dealing with. When i was pregnant i tended to get more colds...this is generally because your body's number one priority right now is the baby, so your immune system will be a bit less effective.

The flu shot contains a dead virus...it is not possible for the shot to cause you to get sick like it would be with a vaccine that carries small amounts of live virus. If you have a fever above 100 go to the doctor. Otherwise rest, drink lots of fluids, and if you are congested call your OB for a list of acceptable OTC cures.
  • I had my flu shot yesterday when getting discharged from the hospital for something else. My dr advised if I was feeling well enough to get it, then do so. I felt fine for about 12 hours. Then I started running fever, headache, chills and nausea started. I forced myself to sleep and woke up feeling fine this morning. The nurse did say if I developed fever over 100.4 to go to triage, but it stayed at 99.9. Just watch your symptoms closely and if you notice new symptoms or worsening symptoms call your ob :) Hope you feel better soon!!
