Help!! I truly feel like stomping my esophagus out "Literally" :(( Do anybody know any faster way to get rid of heart burns ! I been drinking plenty of water.. Staying a way from spicy foods , fried foods, citrus , chocolate..... It's like no Matter what I may eat or drink I always get these freaking heart burns.... It's killing me and it wakes me out of my sleep :((

Re: Heart Burns

  • Same!! It's worse at night. It feels like someone painted my esophagus with buffalo sauce...ugh

  • I have found Tums to offer immediate relief. Don't take too many as I ate them like candy during my previous pregnancy and ended up with kidney stones. I usually have a bout every other day and it's worse at night. I read it helps it have more frequent smaller meals helps as there's not as much to push back up. My doctor said if mine gets really bad this time, she'd rather I take Zantac vs the Tums, but so far I'm only having maybe 3 Tums a week.

  • I take Zantac twice a day and Tums for breakthrough heartburn, but seeing as I had my gall bladder out, some of what I'm feeling isn't heartburn but bile reflux, which is treated by cutting back the stomach acid. Small meals, NO drinking before bed (or just laying down), sleeping on a wedge or upright in a recliner, or eating a few crackers (to give the acid something to do) all help, but for my heartburn nothing works like Zantac.

  • What really helps me is taking Tums and drinking a glass of almond milk. I don't know what it is about almond milk but someone on thebump mentioned it last time I was pregnant and it really does help.

  • I was just started on Zantac 300mg last week and it's already not working. It's a once a day pill and it is now only lasting approx 8 hours. It's awful. So again I'm eating tums like candy. Thankful I go back to my doctor on Monday to see if something else will work better.

During my pregnancy with my first daughter he had me on Dexilant.. that stuff was amazing! I also craved hot sauce on everything with her and onions so I need something. Lol
  • FYI water is the worst for heartburn
  • I tried Zantac tried rolaid tums everything. Ate mash milk bland foods nothing helped. The only thing I've found that helps me a little bit is first thing in the morning I let myself be sick. Gets up all the acid. Then I have buttery toast and cup of milky tea, followed by small food every two hours. It helps it from becoming unbearable.

Agreed. You won't be doing yourself any favors by drinking water when heartburn hits. I was doing a lot of tums, but finally got a recommendation from the MFM to use Zantac. He said 300mg max a day. If it is worse at night you can do it all then, but mine is all day so he said to split 150 am/150pm.

I started this week and there is a noticeable difference.

  • I take Zantac right before laying down for bed and it helps tremendously. Tums are great for during the day. If it gets bad enough to be constantly interrupting your sleep talk to your OB.
  • Zantac.

  • Sleeping a little more elevated helps me.
  • Thanks so much Ladies!!! It's killing me :(( I will talk to my OB about Zantac! Something has to give!!
  • I try and stay clear of meds if I can and do more natural remedies. If you are looking for something as such I would highly recommend apple cider vinegar with "the mother". One teaspoon chased with water before every meal and before bed. It's gross but I promise you your heartburn will disappear.
Works every time. The acidity of the vinegar neutralize the acidity you're experiencing from the foods your consuming.

Yes, I agree.  That used to somewhat work for me pre-pregnancy.  Normal remedies no longer are working for me, though.

  • Agree with PPs. Chugging water worsens my heartburn. I find it worse on days where I sit upright in a chair ( if I'm on my feet or just lounging on the couch I have no issues). I take tums for relief. I know there are other safe options, so talk to your doctor. Mine also recommend: papaya enzymes (at health food stores), raw almonds and ginger tea to help control it. She didn't recommend the number one way my heartburn is relieved which is plain vanilla ice cream. It cools my esophagus and reduces the burn. Sugary things aren't supposed to help, but it works for me. I stick to under 1/2 a cup so I don't overdo calories.
  • Kevita! It's a prepared, fermented coconut water based probiotic drink. It's a godsend for me. I refuse to use Tums or Zantac or anything. They actually make heartburn worse in the long run because your body then overproduces acid to make up for what's eliminated by the med.
  • I have to take 2 tums before i go to bed most nights and it usually works immediately and all night depending on what I eat but no more than 4 a day
  • I had the same problem that sent me running to urgent care. The doctor there said it was my esophagus & prescribed Pepcid & Gaviscon. Took it for 2 days & returned to normal eating & drinking.
  • Tums are my lifesaver ! I think the Tums Smoothie version works even better and quicker than the originals
  • I feel your pain!! It's so awful!! I pretty much just always have it these days, whether I just ate or haven't had anything for hours. It doesn't matter what I eat, I got it from a friggin banana the other day! I take Zantac and chew on tums. I have tried many natural remedies and they haven't worked for me yet. It is ridiculous, I'm so over it. Basically I have heartburn 24/7 and there is nothing I can really do. Hope it starts feeling better for you soon!
  • Gaviscon is great for me. They do handy little 10ml sachets to pop in your bag. It's good for me because it's liquid so you actually feel it coating and soothing your esophagus! Hope that helps x
  • I'm glad I read this thread.. I've been drinking water to soothe my heartburn... Oops :-S
  • Wow thank you! Never would have thought of that I am going to the market in a few! Thanks again

Sweet, I'm gonna try this one. My acid reflux has been mild enough that I can suffer through it--only once did it bring me to a fetal position pity party--so I haven't wanted to take any actual meds. But I would definitely be up for trying some almond milk the next time it hits! Thanks for the suggestion.
