Measuring behind?

I hope this is not a repeat thread. I tried searching, but everything I could find was from 8 week ultrasounds.
I went in for a normal check up appointment today and the doctor said my belly is measuring over two weeks behind where it should be. They are sending me to the hospital for an ultrasound in the morning. Does anyone have experience with this? I don't want to worry, but also fear that baby girl isn't developing on track.
Thanks!

Re: Measuring behind?

  • Measured small with all my kids..this is my 3rd pregnancy. They all turn out fine!!

  • I measured small with my son. So they debt me for a ultrasound to check growth. He was just a small baby. Now at 2 years old he's average height but still very thin but healthy and on or ahead of pace meeting developmental milestones.
  • I'm in the same boat. Just had an ultrasound today at 26 weeks to check on my baby's growth. He's measuring 2 weeks late but everything seems healthy and developing well. It might be that the date he was conceived was calculated wrong, or he's just on the smaller side because I'm petite. I wouldn't worry about it! :)
  • Also measured a few days behind. my midwife and my gynae were not worried. I agree with the ladies, you do not need to worry. :-*
  • Thank you all! This all makes me feel so much better!
  • I measured 2-3 weeks behind with DD1 the entire time. I went in for frequent growth check ultrasounds in the last trimester. She was just a small baby (born a week late at 7lbs5oz). Now at 10 months she is in the 90% for height and 60% for weight. She is totally healthy and no one would guess she was ever behind in anything!

  • I measured behind with my second pregnancy and had to have an ultrasound. She measured at the 9th percentile on two separate ultrasounds so was just barely categorized as small for gestational age, which is less than 10th percentile. Anyway, because of it my ob would not let me go past my due date as it increases the risk for still birth. I ended up being induced the day before my due date and baby came out weighing 6lb 4oz, so she was small but not too small. I think that my doctors concern was that I was measuring on track until I reached 37 weeks when I started measuring behind. Also, on previous ultrasound baby measured around 50th percentile.
  • Same here! Measured normal at 18week ultrasound but at my 22week checkup last week was measuring only 20weeks. My doc said she wasn't too concerned but if he is more behind at my next checkup at 26weeks she may order another ultrasound.
  • I measure a few weeks small and my dr was totally unconcerned. He said at this stage there's a really huge range and since the baby's measured fine all this time it's no problem.
  • my baby was measuring 16 weeks at 18 weeks, then at 20 weeks he was measuring 18 weeks, so they changed my due date from dec 25 to Jan 5.. and now I am 26.3 instead of 28, I guess whenever he arrives we will know for sure ;) he's also measuring good for weight just a little short, but height doesn't run in either side for him. no basketball star here!!
  • All baby measurements are based on statistics. Your belly just may be small but baby is fine.
A co-worker said she measured small her whole pregnancy but the baby was just more up and down and stretched out than curled in the fetal ball.
Another friend was measuring very big the while time because her kids were very close and her uterus was not back down when she conceived the next.
Like many have suggested, baby can be just fine. Let the doctors do the scan and face anything as it comes. Most likely baby is fine and will be within the range.
Notice even the weekly charts in the app have a pretty big range when it comes right down to it.
