Does your baby respond to loud noises and music?

I apologise that this may be one of the dumbest posts in a while, but here goes.

I read a lot on baby apps and see ladies talking about how their babies jump when there's a sudden loud noise and get a lot of movement when playing music or dads talking to their belly.

My baby never does any of that and I'm starting to wonder if he may have a hearing impairment.

Obviously I'm going to discuss it with my midwife at my next appointment but I just wondered if anyone else's baby doesn't respond to sounds much either and if it's pretty normal.

Maddie only really responds to the noise from the NSTs because the nurses like full volume on the machine. Other than that, she's pretty laid back.

I was at a baseball game a month or so ago and when it got really loud, the music seemed to startle her some or make her move around a lot. General talking and music makes her move sometimes, but generally I feel like she just moves when she wants too. I haven't found anything that really gets her going everytime I do it (I hope that makes sense).

My baby is always very active when I'm in the car. I'm not sure if it's from the music or from the movement.

I'm guessing mine is just used to my chaos. Lol. We have two little dogs and one really likes to hear herself bark so I'm hoping he's just learning early to sleep through anything.

I found all of my boys responded to music. Especially when I would play the piano, they would go crazy. And there is something about Metallica that made/makes them move a lot. This one responds a lot to his brothers. My 3yo will talk and sing to the belly and he can really get him going. I think every baby is different, I would definitely voice your concerns but don't stress to much about it.

My first never really responded to loud noises in utero and his hearing is fine. Well he has selective hearing. Does that count? This LO also doesn't respond.

Mine is the same way. I've tried all the fun tricks I've heard others doing, music, pokes to the belly, flashlight to the belly... nothing, this baby moves when he/she feels like it. My first was the same. And even now, he is a really heavy sleeper, nothing wakes him up up until he is good and ready. Great hearing when he's awake though!

Mine doesn't seem to respond to sounds either, just kind of moves of its own volition.

It's always good to bring things up to your OB or midwife if it is bothering you, but I don't think you have anything to worry about (in my non-medical opinion) . Apparently, I have a fairly noisy life because the little guy doesn't have much of a reaction to anything. DH is a musician, so lots of music and live shows; I ride horses, so he experiences general farm noises; and we have big, loud dogs! He moves when he wants to move.

Mine doesn't really respond to music or loud noises, but he has started to get really active when my husband talks, especially if he bends down and talks directly to my stomach.

Yes to the Metallica! DH was playing some of their S&M (symphony+Metallica) YouTube videos the other night and LO was going CRAZY!

I've only noticed mine get startled by noises twice - once when I was on public transportation & the bus door slammed, and the other when the wind slammed a door in my apartment. Other than that, she's been pretty chill when it comes to noises. Maybe she's used to my loud car stereo/highway noises during my long work commute.

She does do a little jump whenever I crack my hip/lower back, though. I'm not sure if that's a reaction to the sensation or the cracking noise, though.

there's something about "La Tortura" from shakira that seems to get baby moving every time. One time early on I was scared because I hadn't felt much movement that day and I played it for him and right away he started kicking. I play it for him a lot, but sometimes I wonder if he just hates the damn song and is trying to get away from it..?

We have three dogs who LOVE to bark at any random thing. She seems totally used to it. But the other day I was unloading the dishwasher and dropped a casserole dish on the counter on accident, right in front of my belly, and she totally jumped. That definitely startled her

My LO was startled by some really loud/strong bass yesterday. The only noise that gets him to wiggle everytime it comes on is Queen's Bohemian Rhasody which I am completely okay with.

My first 2 really didn't. This one only does if DH plays guitar (or should I say tries to play he doesn't play actual songs). It's happen 2 or 3 times at least. I wouldn't worry I think people think way to much into it and it might just be random.

I wonder the same thing with my baby girl. She seems to respond to the same songs (by moving around or kicking) and I always just assumed those were her favorite. Now I'm second guessing that maybe she hates them and wants me to turn them off?

Or he's judging my singing since that's the one song that, no matter where I am or who's with me, I sing at the absolute top of my lungs. I'd much rather think that he just likes the song though

Baby girl responds consistently to her father, when I feel she's been quiet he talks to her and she starts moving. I'm a therapist so I talk to people all day and frequently notice her when I'm in session(very distracting). Mu talking seems to do nothing, shes probably tired of me. As far as music we put on classical stuff sometimes and she will move at first like she notices then gets quiet and then moves again when we turn it off. Her exceptions is a merengue song La Morena by Oro Solido she seems to move throughout that one (@rubirubi89). I have managed to startle her 2 or 3 times usuallt by yelling at my dog but once laughing really loud at Big Bang Theory. Husband and I had the debate the other day- does her moving mean she likes it or she doesnt...?

My baby ALWAYS gets startled when I crack my knuckles under the water when I'm in the bath! I'm thinking it's probably super loud for him/her! But I love it and do it every time I'm taking a bath haha

My baby responds to whatever he feels like responding to at the time. Sometimes when I talk to him he'll move around, sometimes he ignores me. Sometimes loud noises scare him, sometimes he could care less. There's really not a pattern at all. It gets me a little worried sometimes but then I remember it's his world, I'm just living in it.

One of my first 3 (not sure what one) would respond towards the end when I was signing but I don't remember anything else. I noticed this one responded after not hearing daddy for a few days but nothing else specific.

My LO doesn't respond to music. But he does respond to his daddy's voice. He also tends to kick a lot during movies. This kid is gonna be a movie buff like his mommy and daddy. (That or the surround sound gets him going lol)

I haven't really noticed him react to noises unless I'm in my husbands truck and the bass is turned up on his stereo system. This morning I was sitting on the couch with a warm bowl of oat meal, I put it on my bump (33 week bump makes a great make shift table for the couch FYI) and baby definitely reacted. It was a cheap thin plastic bowl and pretty hot. He almost knocked it over.

I was at a derby bout the day before I was going to be induced baby definitely jumped when the crowd cheered. I thought it was pretty cool. I don't think this baby has ever startled I might just be a quiet person though. DD could sleep through anything when she was born, vacuum, dogs, doorbell. It was awesome

I'm an Arizona Cardinals season ticket holder, and it gets crazy at the games. So he's pretty active when I'm in the stadium because of my screaming (lol I can't help it!!) and the other fans cheering and the music. Sometimes if I put music on he will move. But typically he does his own thing and moves when he wants to move. I'm just hoping since my life is loud chaos he's just used to it by now.

I haven't noticed there's any one thing that baby responds to, it all seems really random to me--sometimes it's when I'm laying in bed, driving, cooking, eating, singing, etc. No one thing seems to get her going all the time though. Oh, except for 5am, that's becoming a theme, thanks baby!

Baby kicks around when my husband talks to my belly! I think the low registers must be easier to hear in utero. I've noticed other low male voices and low, loud noises set off a whole bunch of movement.

my LO reacts to my DH and DD when they talk to him, he starts moving like crazy and loves when they sing to him.
