Abdominal pain

This morning I woke up with pain in the sides of my belly that hasn't gone away. It's pretty bad, makes it hard to breathe at times. Its not contractions, it's constant and doesn't get any better (or worse) with anything I do. It's like a never ending severe BH. I've put in a call to my family Dr as my OB's office is closed for the day so I'm waiting to hear what they say, if I should go to emerg or not. I have a cold as well so I've been coughing and sneezing a lot and that makes it hurt worse so I'm not sure if I just pulled something or if its something serious. Anyone have/had this or know what it could be?

Re: Abdominal pain

  • is there not an emergency number you can call for your OB or a nurse on call?

  • No you have to go to obstetrics triage and see whoever, they won't return calls
  • The L&D in my hospital takes calls. maybe you can call in and see if its something they should check out.

  • If it continues and gets stronger, I suggest you go into maternity triage.

  • I have the same thing today. Personally I didn't even think that I should be worried as I have so many aches and pains especially in my right side because that seems to be wear the baby kicks the most

From my understanding it varies. Personally, I had to get checked for some other issues,  and the abdominal pain came about. Hence the advice I gave. But if she is concerned or if it worsens, she should speak to her provider, even if just for clarity.

  • Absolutely if it gets stronger, call the triage or go to the ER. However, since you're sick I wonder if you're dehydrated. I've had shooting abdominal pain a handful of times during my pregnancy and every time it was because I became really really constipated from not drinking enough liquids. If it's been a while since your last BM you might want to try some water, prune juice, and fiber (kiwis and apples!) to see if that is what's causing it. Things can get really tight in there now with it being the 3rd trimester.
    Best of luck to you!

Totally agree with you. I just meant I never thought of that

  • I went to emerg last night cuz I couldn't handle it anymore. They said it was prob round ligament pain and supportive tissue stretching since my pregnancies are close together but I'm not buying that. It's not in the right spot for RL but does feel like tissue stretching tho I would think Tylenol would have at least helped. They swabbed me to make sure I wasn't going into labour in the next 2 weeks and did a urine test, both were negative. So at least that was a relief to hear. This morning I woke up so stiff I could hardly move and I am sore from head to toe, called in sick to work cuz there's no way I can do it today.
