Hurricane on the way .. Ugh

Ok so we are right in the track of the hurricane which at be a cat 2. Hubby wants to evacuate as the potential for major power loss here as well as flooding but I'm totally freaking out as I could have this baby anytime and I want it done here at the hospital I know etx.... Ugh
I'm so stressed ... Any opinions?

Re: Hurricane on the way .. Ugh

  • That has to be very stressful! I hope it works out how you want! I would personally want safety first, wherever you go im sure there are good doctors

  • Do you know when the hurricane is supposed to hit your area? Can you wait until a little close? It's very common for hurricanes to change course or intensity without notice. Hopefully you won't need to evacuate, but your safety is most important. Good luck!
  • Oh wow, are others in your area evacuating already?  I hope it doesn't come to that for you!  I'm actually not worried, it's DH!  Hurricanes are difficult to forecast, and this one seems especially difficult to pin down.  Plus what can you do?  DH is stressing the f out and it's making me crazy.  He wants to stock up on bottled water and food (fridge and freezer are already stuffed so no clue where we're going to put more), he has tested all of our flashlights and bought a giant box of extra batteries, and keeps on telling me he really hopes I can wait until Monday to have the baby.  Settle down, lol!
  • Last night my husband said we should go hang out at the hospital during the hurricane even if I'm not in labor. Just in case. He even said, "Don't you think that's what the doctor would tell you to do?" Maybe I will ask tomorrow when I'm there but I actually think the doctor would want me to just stay inside my house...
  • My SO is stressing about it as well, because when sandy hit our area - it was horrible, we live 2 blocks from the beach and everything was flooded beyond belief we couldn't even access our first floor. He's suggesting I stay at my mothers a few towns away, last hurricane lost power but not flooded, plus it's closer to the hospital. But he wants to stay and take care of things here if it gets bad. It's supposed to hit our area Monday so hopefully it weakens or drifts. Cause with my luck it'll be so flooded here and I'll go into labor and he won't be there.
  • I'm in the same situation. Except the hospital I'm delivering at is an hour away :/ I'm praying that the storms goes in another direction or my little girl decides to come before or after the storm. I luckily live ten minutes from another hospital that I can go to if things get too bad, but I'd rather not. I hope you guys don't get hit bad or your little one holds out for a little while.
  • We live in an area that's often hit with hurricanes and my advice is to prepare for the worst. You never know how bad its going to get, plus people tend to have more accidents and need ER services during storms like these. If something were to happen and you went into labor, you could find yourself in a crowded understaffed hospital. Better safe then sorry! Good luck to you!
  • North Carolina here watching it roll in. My brother is in VA Beach and he said they called for an evacuation yesterday, but he's staying. It's not always necessary but precautionary, but you know that. All I can say is that the other day when Verizon randomly went out for hours and it was the onset of a bunch of stuff for me that landed me in L&D, not having signal for any outgoing calls was seriously scary. This is not the moment to think its all going to be fine, you can roll with it. We should assume that anything could happen at any moment. I know they shut down the eastbound highways at a certain point and make all lanes going away from the coast, consider that in your route to the hospital if necessary, too. In these 9 months, we all have a pass to (1) eat cookies at 2am, (2) fart in public, and (3) play it overly cautious.
  • We're staying. Hopefully it's not like Sandy here in NJ. But I'm so close to my due date I worry. I also worry because I'm supposed to give birth in Red Bank and it flooded very badly last time. I'm just hunkering down and hoping my water doesn't break.
  • We aren't near the coast or in the path of where it's supposed to come ashore, but we are supposed to get a ton of rain and with that comes power outages and falling trees. We have reservations at a hotel this weekend just off the highway, 5 min from our hospital, just in case things get bad. Hoping we don't have to go, and those 100-year-old oak trees in our yard decide to stay right where they are!

Yes! I'm delivering at Monmouth medical, which is like two blocks from the beach. I'm more nervous about roads being flooded and getting to the hospital.
As of today, the news is saying the hurricane will stay in the ocean.
  • Us too. During Sandy we lived in a sturdy 3rd floor condo and were some of the only homes in town that didn't lose power for a full week.
Now, we've bought a house that's surrounded by huge trees and power lines. And we have no idea what to expect!!!
  • They are calling for major flooding where I live.....and I'm do for induction Sunday morning! I think we may need a boat to get to the hospital!
  • We are in the suburbs of Philly and are getting a ton of rain. I had my twins during hurricane Sandy, so being so close to my due date everyone keeps texting/asking me if this little man will join us during this hurricane. How funny would that be to have had all my kids during hurricanes?! I seriously doubt it though; he seems pretty comfy in there :)

  • We are in a state of emergency and the hospital in delivering at is where all the flooding and closed roads are! Hoping my little man doesn't make an appearance this weekend!
  • I am in south carolina and we have aome pretty bad flooding and lots of road closures! I have been taking it super easy and resting all day to hopefully prevent little man from coming today.... i honestly dont know if there is a way to get to the hospital

  • I'm in south carolina too!
I'm seriously bored out of my mind with all this raining and flooding! My birthing class was canceled. Went to the grocery store instead and now most of the roads out are flooded. I joined about going into labor today because it would take forever to get to the hospital.
  • I'm in South Carolina too! I'm delivering at MUSC downtown charleston, hoping he stays in there!! Downtown is practically underwater! where are you guys from?
  • I'm in South Carolina too, but closer to Florence so it's not nearly as bad as those of you in or around Charleston. Also, my LO seems pretty comfy so I don't think she'll be making an appearance soon.

DH is in the national guard and got called today saying they're most likely heading to charleston tomorrow, so I'm not excited about him being gone but with 2 weeks left till my due date I'm sure I'll be fine!
  • I'm in Summerville! I don't think you'd be delivering at musc today or tomorrow lol . Is crazy around here. All the roads are flooded and I really want pizza or McDonald's right now. Haha!
