DIY maternity pants!?

I have 5 pairs of jeans. Yea I know I said DIY... But all but 1 are full panel. Last pregnancy I was fine with them. I actually preferred them. Now they are SO itchy I want to scream bloody hell and scratch til I Bleed!!! (If that tells you how badly it hurts/inches annoys! Lol) any how I thought since I got them why don't I just change the panel to low rise? I can't find anything online? Can't I just change it by folding it down over an elastic band and sew?? Or how can I take the itch away? I have worn a cami and tucked it under the panel. Doesn't help at all!!!

  • Yea when I fold it down its better but then it bunches up and I'm wearing very low so it hurts plus baby hates it. Im a load of uncomfortable issues!!! These 1 pair were my favorite pair last time. I would think its not the fabric! Maybe I need to get use to. I'm so thankful and feel better I'm not alone!
  • Nothing on diy. But I haven't been able to wear full panels they fit weird and I'm just generally not a fan. I've been wearing some topshop maternity pants that have a yoga like band in the front only, which has been comfortable to me.
  • I LOVE my full panel! Which was a total surprise to me as I hate things around my stomach ordinarily, tights, pantyhose, high-waisted pants, ugh! But I just feel supported w/these. Hope that doesn't changif I have another!
Anywho, I agree with PP that if you just fold in 1/2 & stitch they'll definitely roll down. If that doesn't bother you I'd do that, but maybe fold in thirds rather than 1/2 depending on the panel size. (I found old navy to be shorter panel than motherhood, for example) I'd also stitch vertically along both sides as well.
If you want to go all out. I would fold in thirds & then use the thickest elastic you can find. (You'll notice low panels all have a thick elastic band to help hold pants in place.) Stitch that in place on both sides of the panel. (I'd probably place it on the inside of the panel.) Then I would cover both sides of panel with a coordinating flannel. (Should help with itchiness) This is what I'd try if it were me. Let me know if you need clarification or advice. Not a seamstress, but I do have a decent amount of experience sewing. ;) Also, I'd try to lube that belly up before putting on your full panels if you haven't already. I use a little coconut oil. Might help with the itch! Good luck!
