Look in your month group, there really hasn't been one established here. People just ask questions as they go. I've been on insulin since like week 12, it's not THAT bad. But now at 35, I'm done, I'm over it. They just switched me to Lantus, a long acting insulin, which doesn't seem to be working at all. But just figure out what you can and cannot eat. Even though they give you the papers saying what you "should" eat, I find personally that I can't have some of the things they say are ok. I cannot have cow's milk at all, certain carbs they say are bad, like pasta, rice and white bread, I tolerate just fine. Cereal is out. It's much a trial and error thing to find out what works best for you. I can say with insulin that any type of activity will lower you, so keep that in mind. If you start to feel dizzy or sweaty 2 hours after a meal, likely you are low. Let me know if you have any questions, I'm on old pro at it. 3rd time around.
I've been on a slow release insulin at night to get my morning numbers down, every 2 days I increase the dose and haven't seen a difference after a week which is disappointing.. Do you ever have an issue with your fasting numbers? I've tried having a high protein snack before bed which doesn't seem to make a difference.
Also were you previously advised to be induced early? My first lo was born 10 days early at 11 lbs (I was not diagnosed gd in that pregnancy but they say I may have developed after a negative test). I was hoping to avoid c section this time around but perhaps I should just look forward to a scheduled date lol
I have GD also - 2nd time around. @FrozenMommy is right on target - i just had to find things that worked for me because some of what they said I should have been able to eat spiked my numbers.
My fasting number was the hardest to get under control - all of my day time numbers were good but I was consistently coming in over 100 and up to 120 on my fasting. They put me on Glyburide and had to increase my night time dose twice before it started working. About a month later they've actually had to decrease it because my fasting numbers have been in the 40's and 50's which is way too low.
The OB/Peri won't let me go past 39 weeks with the GD. I am scheduled for a c/s but they said if i go naturally earlier they'll let me try for a VBAC. At this point I just want baby healthy and here!
Thanks Pookster. Sounds like I should be reviewing my diet journal a bit, some foods I assumed were good might be triggers.
What is it about the GD that had them schedule you early, is it the size of the baby? Have you had extra ultrasounds or anything to measure baby?
I meet with my OB on Thursday so I'm sure we'll discuss then (first appointment as I've only been seeing my regular Dr and the dietician up until this diagnosis).
There is a private group for diabetics (not just GD, but for all). But since I have been a member, there has only been one post. I am a diabetic pre pregnancy. My OB (I never say any specialists), gave me some leeway on my readings. As long as they weren't over 120, we were good. My OB and his practice, induces his diabetic patients during their 39th week. Like the PP said, it's just finding what works for your body. Pasta is a big no for me. Rice is good. I like either brown rice or jasmine. I never had any extra u/s. I had a total of three. The first at 20 weeks, the second at 36 weeks and the last one at 39 weeks (only because I saw a NP instead of my OB) before my induction date. Basically everything you eat is in moderation. If you have cravings, it's okay to give into them, but know your limits.
Thanks Frozen mommy!

Yes, I have terrible fasting numbers, according to my doctors. Today was 99, yesterday was 110. Have only been under 90 twice this entire pregnancy. I will have a repeat C 10 days early, and I had to negotiate my doctor into that, she wanted to wait until just 2 days early. I told he rno way. With my high fasting and fluids, and how uncomfy I am I want him out asap.
I'm here! Rocking the same boat! I'm a second time gestational diabetes mommy. The first time all my numbers were fine. My son was born due to premature rupture of membranes at 34+2. He weighed 6 pounds 5 ounces. This time is very different. Im 28+2 and My fasting #s are between 90 and 105. My 2 hour pp are all under 125. I just don't understand. I try a high protein snack at bedtime, doesn't help. He said if they don't go down, he may out me on meds no talk of early delivery yet, but they are keeping a close eye because I only made it to 34 weeks last time.
I've been taking insulin a couple weeks now, it's not so bad. It's a slow release so I take it at night to bring down my fasting numbers. At first it took me a while to get used to giving myself a shot but now it's ok. I have also started walking more which really brings my numbers down.
I hope your baby stays cooking a few weeks longer this time around! That sounds scary!
