MOTN and shots

Well here I am feeding...it's 1am and the last time she ate was 8pm so that's a nice little stretch of sleep. Baby just had her shots yesterday at around 6pm. She got 3 injections and one oral. She's doing surprisingly better than I anticipated. No fever, not too too fusy. She's sleeping well considering. I have to say I was so nervous and it was so sad seeing her in pain but she took it like a champ and was all smile the rest of the night. We will see what tomorrow brings...

Doc did say he wants her to take vitamin D drops (she's EBF)

I've been taking an anti fungal and antibiotic medication for a nipple infection; it seems to be messing with her little tummy. He suggested for her to take an infant probiotic. Her stools are not a normal color and constancy, and it could be from the medicine I've been taking. It makes me sad that her little system has to go through this. Well sentiments aside have any of you used vitamin D drops or probiotics? Did you see improvement in your LOs overall health?

Re: MOTN and shots

  • Popping in from Aug 15 :)

Glad your LO is doing ok after the shots!

We have our DD on vitamin D drops and probiotics. She has much less gas now that she's on the probiotic, but she's now 7 weeks and has been on the probiotic since week 2 so I'm not sure if it's that or if her system would have regulated on its own. The vitamin D drops don't provide any noticeable difference, but they're so important for nine health and pretty inexpensive so totally worth it.

I also did not like using vitamin D drops because my little one didn't like them. I used to use the enfamils brand, trivasol, at first but He didn't really like it. Then many mamas here recommended me to switch up to Baby D drops, which is only one drop into your nipple or pacifier and that's it. A lot different then trying to pop 80ml into LO's mouth, and it's so much easier and less messier. But I have noticed his yellowish skin color disappearing and his skin color getting lighter. Now for probiotics, since I'm BF, I eat Greek yogurts that contain probiotic, it seems to help and not only him but me too lol I hope this helps and have a great day! ;;)

    PS:
I'm attaching a pic of the vitamins, they contain no artificial flavor or coloring and they're great!

  • We use probiotics and vitamin D drops and have a since LOL was about two weeks old
  • @nataliemarie02 -- My LO sounds a lot like yours!  Her stools changed when I took antibiotics and my antifungal.  We recently recovered from thrush too.

Two weeks have passed since our thrush and Hazel's system seems to be fully recovered.  I can find you references if you'd like to verify -- studies have shown that both Vitamin D and Bacteria pass from Mom to Baby through breast milk.  If you are getting adequate sunshine and/or taking Vitamin D, your LO should have plenty of Vitamin D.  The same goes for the probiotic:  if you're taking a probiotic, the proper amount will pass through your milk and colonize LO's intestines.

I hope you two feel better soon!
  • @wheresilenceismusic I love the name Hazel! It turns out we did not have thrush at all. We took anti fungal meds and it made my symptoms worse. I had a bacterial nipple infection so we switched to antibiotics. So we've been pumped with everything also could be why my period came back sooner or why I could just be breakthrough bleeding.
  • Vitamin d drops are recommend for bone health, as it does not transfer through breastmilk as well as other vitamins. Formula fed babies usually get enough through that so it's not necessary. We use the single drop stuff pp mentioned and it's great - he doesn't notice it at all and so easy!
